    ATC 70 fouling trouble

    Hey all,

Great board and webiste, looking forward to using and contributing. I have had a couple of 3 wheelers for several years now, they were all given to me. 2 honda atc 70's (one for parts) and a yamaha ytm 200 (I have been told that it is an 83 from the local dealer).

Anyway, got the ytm running last week, cant keep the dang front wheel on the ground, lots of power.

The trouble I am having with it now is there is no power to the lights, any ideas?

On the ATC 70, I did a hand lap valve job, honed the cylinder, rings look good, valve seals look good BUT, its fouling the plug like mad. I am heading out to get a new one, but cannot reason how/why I'm fouling plugs.

Any help is greatly appreciated, will send in some photos for the readers rigs page soon.

    fouled plugs

I have not had it running since I got it, I had that on my "to do" list and that damn little "Iraq thing" popped up and I missed out on a year. Finally pieced one atc out of two and right after I posted my question onthe atc, is did a search on fouled plugs.

I found some good info, went to town, picked up a new plug, cleaned my points, reset the gap, checked my pri and sec. coil ohms...(they checked out) and with the new plug fired it up!!!

My thoughts....crapped spark plug and points out of cal...but hey, its running, will post pics soon.

    Thanks!!!

Question How long since the carb's been rebuilt?

You didn't specify if it was oil or fuel fouling.

My 70 had a fuel fouling problem.
I picked up a rebuild kit for the carb..
No more fouling, it idles smoooooooth and runs MUCH better.

The kits are cheap and the carb's are SIMPLE.

    Love those 70's!!

Thanks, I will look into getting a kit, I did a "backyard" overhaul on the carb, cleaned her up nice but now I am getting an odd idle down problem. It wont idle down quickly when the gas is released and the rpm rises when you turn the handlebars....sigh...my first 3 wheeler project, guess I need to pony up $30.00 for the clymers manual...

It still is smoking blue when it runs but it is not fouling out the new plug (yet).
