Broke the Bolt in my Tecate Gear Shifter "Help"

I had just put the DG system on my Tecate and the gear shifter was loose. I tightened the bolt and it snapped off in the shifter. It was still loose allso. Does anyone know how to get that out and does anyone heve an 84-85 Tecate Gear Shifter they want to sell. The DG sounds great on her but I want to ride it and see what shes like.Of course my build is now complete and im ready to finish off the Artical on the Restoration page but then this happens. Any help out there? Thank you.

You need to drill it out and retap for threads for the next largest size bolt.

    broken bolt

if the other end of you bolt is flush on the opposite side, you can take a dremel or jewelers file and cut a small slot in it. then unscrew it. if is still on the trike, try drilling a small pilot hole from the bottom, one just a tad smaller than an allen wrench or even a nail. If the remaining broken bolt is loose you will be able to jack it out by "gently" driving the allen or nail into the hole and turning it.

or you can drop about $5.00 and get an "easy out" broken screw extrator and go that route.

    hope that helps out!

A reverse drill bit may be an option too. You can get them at the local hardware store.

Dang it, you beat me to it. That is what I would try first especially since he mentiond it was still loose when it snaped.
