Oil filters are not nearly as spendy as motor rebuilds. Find somewhere to buy them in quantity, and change it every time.

I cheated once on my 350x and just cleaned the oil filter and reinstalled it. ( The motor only had 100 hrs on it ). I ran the machine about 20 hrs with the cleaned ( I thought ) oil filter and the rod came loose. When I removed the oil filter I found it totally plugged.

The cost to fix the motor was $700 in parts ( and the cost of having the new rod pressed in ). All because I wanted to save $4 on a oil filter. I now change the filter Everytime and never have had a problem. The one motor we rebuilt has at least 400 hrs on it and Not one problem.

Is a $500 to $700 major overhaul cheaper than a $4 to $8 oil filter? Not to me. If you want filter in bulk let me know. I can/do order then ( emgo ) by 25 to 50 at a time. I probably have 15 at the shop now.

    Thanks

How much would you charge me for a couple Howdy? I don't want 25-50, I just want a few for once I get my engine rebuilt I'll need a new one. The part number is #30-1695 in the Dennis Kirk book, I don't imagine it would be different from the actual Emgo part #. If you can get them cheaper I'll buy a few or 4 from ya. Thanks

Filters too "SPENDY", eh? Relax, it is the BEST thing to do.

If you have a paper element filter, you should change it at EVERY oil change. If you have an oil screen, that is the one that only requires cleaning.

Spend small amounts now to prevent the BIG BUCKS later.
