I built one. I need to do improvements to the steering though to dial it in. I bought the frame off ebay and most of the other parts also. I think I have around $600 tied up in it. I ended up using a hydraulic gokart disc brake, 5hp tecumseh engine and a twist throttle with t-handle steering. You need to be pretty inventive to put one together. A welder or friend with a welder is handy as most kits are not fully welded to make shipping easier. It is fun, will do 40 or so mph, will carry a 300 pound man and has skittish steering. I used a short barstool though, less distance to fall in case of a mishap.
