84 T-3 owners Am I backwards on my choke

I started to think about this, and it is pissin me off, lol. On the 84 T-3, there is a chock lever on top of the carb, I have been told if you press the lever down the choke is on, when you pull it back up the choke is off. This might explain my trike bogging down, but I have ran it like this in the past and it ran like a rapped ape.
