    Painting the Gas Tank

first off, what do they do to get the original paint on, powdercoat??? my other tank held up good against gas, and all i did with that is completely removed all paint, primed, then rattlecanned it with some auto spray paint.. came out good, just not really smooth.. if OEM tanks were powdercoated im sure i can find a place around here to do it, i just need to know what paint to get. or should i just spraypaint, and hope it holds up for awhile against the gas.

The original Finish is Automotive Acrylic Enamel Paint. I use Basecoat clearcoat. It is much more gas resistant. Gas does not affect its finish, but it will affect acrylic enamel. The reason the old tanks paint holds up so well, is because its been on there for 20years and been baked in the sun quite a bit. I personally would never use anything on my tank. Just not as durable, and doesnt look as good. I can shave in the glare on my 350X and 250ES tanks.

If you need to have your tank done, you should send it to Clay. Or, I know a guy up here who can do it for cheap (same guy who did my 350X tank).
