I've got a 1979 John Deere Trailfire 340. Used it on the trails a couple of times, and worked pretty good, till i jumped it one day and broke the track at home. Then i took the motor out of it, and put it in a 1979 John Deere Liquifire, and it still runs pretty good. In 100 yards, it will go 70mph on the speedo, then i run out of room.
Its not the newest sled around, but it runs good enough. I got both sleds for free from my dads friend, and all i bought was a fuel filter for $0.98, a belt for about $20.00, probably about 25 gallons of gas, and oil to premix with it, so its been a cheep sled so far.
I have a 1985 pantera 440LC. Its junk. Motor finally died last year and its still on original bore with original pistons and rings. Body is rough and fiber glass hood has seen better days. I also got a 1986 El Tigre 5500. Also 440LC. It was partially restored by my step dad. Looks great, But, engine only runs on 1 cylinder and I took the engine apart to get to the sprockets and chain inside the case for the Pantera. I was just thiinking about putting that engine back together and seeing if I could fix the engine. It could be just the coil? I think my step dad tried everything he could but he could not fix it. Weird.
I love the old yamaha SRX 440's, I have 2 of them. They are both 1979's, but one has a 77 SRX engine with 77 pipes. These babies run, a stock 77 made almost 100hp, the 79 only had about 80hp stock. Back in the day the SRX & Merc snow twisters were the ones to beat. They were so light, the twisters were lighter then the SRX. I wish I could find a 76 Merc snow twister. They were the liquid cooled ones, I think they weighed less than 300lbs. Here are a couple pic's from the drags in Michigan. These old sleds rule the strip, all the new 440's are to heavy & don't stand a chance in 500'. Alot of the sanctioned races won't let the SRX & merc's run in the standard 440 class unless they add some weight. Then they still kick arse.![]()

Those are some nice looking sleds. 300lbs with a 440 in it? That thing must fly! But without rear suspension (ball slappers) it must be a rough ride. I know my Pantera is..
Thats why you drag them on the nice smooth ice.The fast guys with the new big sleds tie the rear suspension down, or run aftermarket drag suspension.

. Anyone have a pic of a 440?
My sis just got an old Arctic Cat Kitty Kat from our neighbors... it's at least 15 years old, judging by the stickers on it (green stripes like on the old 80's "Cats")
