    Liquid cooled engine question......

This may be a dumb question, but I want to know. On aircooled engines, there is no means of cooling. What keeps them from locking up? I know they have fins, but that can't help that much. On liquid cooled engines, if you run it without radiators, they lock up and seize. Or can you run them without em?

The realtively "cool" fuel charge in ANY engine - Air/Oil or Liquid cooled is responsible for up to 80% of the cooling of any gasoline engine. As it hits the hot piston and head, the exchange causes heat dissapation. Water Cooled motors have an advantage over A/C engines in that they can maintain a specific temperature range with help of the water jackets - this allows for much tighter tollerences than A/C motors, and that means they can create more power, relatively.

air cooled cylinders and heads are much bigger, and need the fins to disipate the heat. like a big heat sink. It pulls the heat away from the piston and cylinder wall.
