well, bad crank bearing will eventually sieze the motor, and ruin other things by putting pieces of the races and/or bearings in your oil...it will basically destroy your motor in a short period of time when they start to **** the bed....

My exchange student TRI-Z frank just had a crank bearing go out on his 1985 tri-z. There was no noise before the bearing went out and he said it was running harder then it ever had run before. The dammage was catastrophic. Sent chunks of metal through out the engine. Destroyed the top of the piston, beat the top of the head to death. also beat up the rod, And put some nasty groves in the case. Oh yes had to get the cylinder rebored because the metal scarred the cylinder walls. If you think the crank bearings are going out change them. It will be much cheaper then destroying your engine. Good Luck. Glenn O.

well an indication of bad crank bearings and seals would be a bogging down and wouldnt have the power it should, i had crank bearings and seals go out on my 97 polaris quad i had and it didn have the power it use to and it actually burnt a hole in the piston because it was sucking air through the seals and bearings, also it started to make sorta a nocking noise before it wrecked the piston.

Worn crank bearings often produce no symptoms at all other than more vibration than usual which may or may not be noticeable. Sometimes you will also get a low pitch roar, sometimes you wont. Bad seals can show problems but bad seals dont necessarily mean bad bearings, and bad bearings often have seals that continue to work fine. Rather than watch for symptoms, your best bet is to check them frequently. You check them just like any other bearing. You look for slop, in this case with the crank. Take the flywheel cover off. Grab the flywheel, and see if you can move the crankshaft up and down. The other side is a little more work because you have to take the sidecover off, which requires draining the oil. Also, there isnt much to there on the end of the crankshaft to grab, and do the wiggle test with. The good news is that the flywheel side, the easy one to check, almost always wears out before the other side, and you should replace them both if you have to split the cases to replace one side.
