I dont know for sure, so I wont confuse you more and guess, but I just went through the same thing. I have an 85R and the axle was bent, my carrier teeth were messed up as well.... I searched all over ebay for a used 85 axle, and they all seemed to be TRX axles... I ended up just buying a Lonstar carrier and a durablue axle...... mmmmmmmmm shiney chromey parts......

ok ,, i have a 88 trx axle in a 85 carrier right now,, it works fine . it takes a little figuring on the sprocket but it works fine.
