Tool question for you shadetree mechanics.......

To pull the manual clutch on a 200, the service manual calls for a "locknut wrench 20x24 mm" it's a four grooved nut that holds the clutch on...I'm sure many of you have seen it before..what sort of wrench do I buy to loosen it? I also want the flywheel off any small engine gear puller work??

    TIA
    dsp

Not sure about the 200 but its probably the same. I made my own nut tool using an old 15/16 spark plug socket, carefully grind down the socket to form 4 posts that slot into the nut.
Works perfectly, saves a few dollars too!!

Well, what you really need is an angle grinder with a metal cutting blade. But, I'm not sure if I should be suggesting this. My wife shudders every time I go near power tools, a couple of years ago I had a nasty misunderstanding with an angle grinder and ended up in Hospital on Xmas eve getting 12 stitches in my face. So, if you're gonna do this make sure you are bloody carefull, Kind of wish I hadn't suggested it now. Shouldn't be a big deal, just be sure you are competent with an angle grinder, wear gloves and a face shield.

Honda wanted 150 $ plus tax for the swingarm tool ( looks almost like the one above but bigger.. )

I found one already made in my boxed XR parts.... for the clutch.

Put masking tape over the socker to be used.. mark it with a pencil. lock it TIGHT in a solid bench vice... start with a sawzall and make your cuts in the proper places then take the angle grinder to remove the extras.... not too hard.

and for god sakes.. wear the proper safety equip.. gloves and eye protection are a must anytime you fire up the grinder !!!!!

I use a normal 2 or 3 prong puller. Whatever fits and has the span. It may not hold the best, but usually it can get it to work. You just have to be carefull and work slowly to make sure you don't break anything. Put a little pressure on with the puller then tap that center nut. It may just pop right off if you are lucky. I bought a set of 3 different size pullers from Harbor Freight Tools for $10 on sale. They haven't let me down yet.
