it is very unusual that it would fail. What you have to do is open the bleeder screw, and make sure there is no air in the lines, take the cover off the pump, and bleed the pump. Its pretty obvious when you take the cover off. Do this any time you unhook a line. I am running my oil injection on my 175 that sat in a field for a year, and it works fine. The housing was full of water, but internally, the pump was full of old oil. I bled all the red, crappy oil out of the system and now use snowmobile injection oil, it loves it. Dont mess with anything but the bleeder screw.
