    Unhappy 185s and 200x

My project trike has me at a loss. I know the trike is a 1985 200x with a 1983 185s motor (thanks Howdy ). Everything on the trike seems to be off the 200x, until today when I was looking at some gears on Dennis Kirk.com. My front sproket has 11 teeth and the rear has 42. The 11 on front seems to be the standard for a 185s and so does the 42 on the rear . I was looking at getting a larger (12 tooth) front sproket and a smaller rear sproket. When I began looking I noticed that the listings for the 200x rear sproket are alot smaller (tooth wise) than what I currently have . The chain is a 520. My question therefore is: Is it possible that the 185s axle was put into the 200x swingarm? and Would I have to buy a whole new axle to get the proper sprocket holder for the 200x rear sprocket or could I trade out the piece that holds the sprocket?

The 185s axle is way different than the 200x one. I would guess that they bolted the 185s rear sprocket to the 200x sprocket hub. Probably all you need are new sprockets.

    sprocket

So the 185s rear sprocket and the 200x rear sproket are interchangable? If so I will order a new 200x sproket.

you can also use a 200x front sprocket and kicker up to a 13 tooth front..if you want to...youll get some speed outa the little engine..guranteed..it may take a bit longer but youll get there...if youve got some mods done to it then that would be even more bad ace...like a 200x top end and carb...it would be a pretty bad 185 then

    Sprockets

What would be a good ratio for the front and rear? Right now it is 11/42. I was thinking 12/40 or 12/35, which would give the best accelaration/speed?

my 200x is at 13/40 and it goes 60 so a 12/35 should go faster..

    Sprokets

Can someone tell me how many bolts hold the rear sproket on a 185s and a 200x? The one I have has 5 holding it to the sproket hub. Trying to decide which to buy 185s/200x rear sproket. I'm still worried about it fitting.

    Thanks

I also have an 83 185s in a 200x chassis. I was running 13, 36, and I COULDN'T get in 5th gear! it would not pull at all!! however she moved right along in 4th! my top end is quite wore, and possibly with a good top end, it might be fine, but i would suggest a bit of modding, if you're planning on running 13/36
    Caution
Do not "POP WHEELIES" and run for any distance with the ATC. The oil capacity is relatively small and the oil will drain out of the oil pump area thus causing loss of oil pressure, resulting in costly engine damage -CLYMER

I ended up going from a 11/42 setup to a 12/40 setup. That last post got me to worried to go under 40 on the back ! I know it's not much but maybe it will give me a little more speed.

yea ull have more speed than 11/42..not as much acceleration but more speed...200x rear sprockets are 5 bolt, 185s's are 4 bolt with rubber grommets that if you dont pay attention they will wear out...btw..you should ht about 55mph with those gears

If it can get to 55mph that will be plenty for the things I will be doing with it.

Do you think it will lose a lot of acceleration?
