What rims fit the rear of a 250SX?

My dad needs some new rear rims for his 1985 250SX, his are bent. We tried a set from a 85 250R and some other gold 8" rims I have and nothing will fit over the rear brake drum. What rims will fit this thing? If we go with new ones who has the cheapest ones? I think he wants alluminum but if the cost a lot more than steel he will probably just get steel rims.

I run the 85R gold rims, maybe they are 9"?? not sure but I know the pre 85R rims don't fit. I have also run the 200X and 350X rims with no problems.

Are these 350x rims stock?

I know there are some 8" rims that fit on the SX, I have some (ones the duro's are on). I'm not sure what these are off of though.

Thats strange because another member (200xman) said the 350X rims don't fit but 9" ITP ones do.

Hey Blown 331, how's it going?
I recently bought a pair of ITP steel replacements for my wife's 250SX.
I got them at Precision Powersports in Imperial, MO because he does tire mounting for a GREAT price, too.
They fit PERFECT, look great and are a HECK of a lot cheaper than what people want for rusty old originals!!

Well, I tested it, and stock 350X rims will NOT fit on the SX, unless you use some sort of spacer to create more room between the drum and the wheel.

I believe the difference may be that I'm running all 86/87 rear ends with the enclosed drum brake behind the hub and not the 85 rotating drum that fits over the hub.

How close was it though? Was it the actual mating surface of drum that doesn't fit or the "cooling fins' that you see in this picture that get in the way?

If it's the mating surface how far out would you have to space it? Just a 1/4" or so or your talking at least an inch? HMMMM, couldn't be too far or the studs won't be long enough.

That's why then that some rims fit on the 86/87 and not the 85. Cool

You would definatly need longer studs. I will take some pics next time I get a chance of the interesting rear end on my SX; it's wierd, looks like it's been modified before.
Oh, the spacers would have to be at least half an inch, maybe more, but if you put them on both sides, you would have an extended axle!
