Kickstart return spring is shot. After I start it, there is a grinding noise, and I'm positive it's the return spring. My question is, Is there a diagram to replacing that, or does anyone know how to?

Its bad, I hate to tell you. You will need to go internal. Grinding is not a good thing lol. Oh and stop running it till you get the grinding stuff out.

does the kicker stay down after you kick it, from personal experience it should only grind when the spring is broken, either way grinding is bad, but if it is more of a quick series of clunks then the spring could of just came loose.

take the spring off...drain your oil definitly and go to the hardware store with the old pieces...i can almost gurantee that they have one and it will work..ive done it for some other things but not my return spring..clean your oil screen also

once here you will see a link towards the bottom of the page. It will bring you to another page and here click the little connect button and once it runs the program click on a lil book in teh top left hand corner. then click ATV, then ATC200 and you know the rest and when it is all said and done then on the far left is a list of catagorys and just run through the list and doubble clike the one showing the diagram * need and doubble click the pic that it highlights to the right and it will give you a bigger,zoomable diagram and to the right of the big diagram is a parts list and if * grab the right part# then you can call servicehonda at 1-800-828-5498 and give them the part number and you can buy the part at a fraction of the cost of most companies or Honda dealers.
That should fix you up.

My 83' 200X's kickstart is doing the same thing. Could this also have anything to do with the clutch burning out? And do * have to split the motor in half to fix it or what? Also the link doesn't work for me...........thanks

no you need to take off the right side case..where the kicker is and then the next one in..right before the one that splits in half..so the little one for the kicker and then the big one behind it is all

yep, same thing here. The end of the spring was broke off and chewed some stuff up inside. A real pain in the ash.

I must know, how you replaced that spring without splitting??????????
Anyway, I see there are alot of 200x's with issues on this spring. I will get picts today. I have one split.

you have to take the cases apart (splitting) to fiz this. after you get the casese split you will then have to take out a bolt that is under the right crank case. you take that out then the whole assy. pushes out. but to fix this you must pull the motor and split cases. then the fun part is getttin the trany all lined up when * put it back together.

yea wasnt there a factory recall on the 200x starter gears? be cause every ones 200x's that i know has had this happen one of mine has and its sanded my ring lucky i had a parts bike

Well, I know a guy that has an '84 250r for sale for $100. Because the guy messed up the head on it, and now it needs new piston, rings, and a new head. So I may just end up getting that, and saving this for a project of a different type

A lttle black bird once told me that if there is an X stamped in your serial numbers on your motor that a kickstarter kit was reinstalled at the factory. I believe some were recalled and fixed but by the sound of it not too many.Originally Posted by Pigga

There was indeed a factory recall, however I think they missed about 90% of them.
