Less weight.. less wind resistance.. etc...... will get you a few more mph.
bigred I see your point but agree with Huffa because if your trike has the power to pull your weight to top speed (or redline) which is the highest the engine will ever rev .. then whether you weight 100lbs or 250lbs .. as long as your at redline the speed will be the same.

    Hmmm... tough call.

I think some clutch slippage comes into play here... a 250 lb rider would still rev it out but have you ever seen the pimp squeeks at the go cart track zoom by the bigger riders on identical machines !?

big bore machines would be less noticable, but on 200 cc's a heavy rider would be slower in my 0.02

ok.. we need some testing here.. who's in ?
    Currently :

    82 ATC - 200, plain jane, almost mint. ( Sold, 03-17-2005)
    84 ATC - 200 ES, Jimmy-Rigged, don't ask.( Sold, 03-17-2005)
85 ATC - 250 SX, Pride and Joy, Bottom-Less Money Pit.
    84 125 M - The Mini-SX not running yet. but won't be long.

hmm yeah I see your point to about the slipage ... but the go cart thing well are they at top speed?.. cause acceletating will be faster with a lighter rider.. also do they have the power to pull high revs with the heavier rider?

bigred know of any 200 engines?... pm me if you do.. my x motor is kinda trashed.

Another point is that if you up the horsepwer by ANY amount (5,10, 15) it won't make a bit of difference top speed wise if your red line is the same. You'll get there a heck of a lot quicker but the top speed will remain the same.

Top speed = red line and thats what we are talking about here.

    Yep, he's right

We had a discussion on this a while back and also mentioned that when a ballon tire expands it is changing your gear ratio. Go slow - tire smaller - it's gear down...........go fast - tire bigger - it's geared up. So with balloner your have a varible gear ratio! Pretty cool.

That's why alot of times when your talking same machine and a few MPH difference top speed between the two , most likely one has a larger tire on then the other.
