Honda Dealer Says I Need New Rims To Mount Tires I Got

Well its been three weeks and I still dont have my Honda 125M. All I asked for Is three New Tires. After Two weeks I call em up and ask what the heck is going on. They tell me they cant Mount the Tires on the Rims because they are Two Piece rims. I asked, why didnt you tell me when we sat there and ordered them, and why havnt they called to tell me. I call today which is now Three weeks and ask what the (don't bypass the word filter!) is going on with my Trike. They still havnt gotten to it, they tell me. So I start Bitching about how it should take a few days to Order, Get and Install Three Tires. I then said "So I Take it I allso need a new Front Rim" He tells me yes and thats when I blew up. I told them to (don't bypass the word filter!) off, dont touch my Trike and I will be there tomorrow to Pick up my Trike and My $140 I threw down up front. This is such B.S. as I need that wheeler to get some Tree Stands up before I leave for the summer.

Whats the deal with this Tire Crap? He said they could only Mount OEM Tires and they are $70 each. I ordered AMS-Fox A/T 22-11-8 all around. They are just your Basic V Pattern Knobbies. I dont understand why they cant be mounted. Anyone want to clue me in.

They did offer me ITP T9 Rolled Lip Rims for $30 each but I really didnt want my Honda all Shiney, I want it for Hunting and Putting around. If I want Shiney I would go get my Tecate Out.

that sounds like crap...two piece rims are the easiest rims to mount any tire on....the only thing i can think of is that they want * to buy tubes for the tires because the air will leak throught the two pieces...

or they mounted ** tires up on the rims and found they wouldnt hold air (because of the two pieces) and thought ** rims had a problem with the tires...being the idiots that they are think * need new rims........but i have met some idiotic honda dealers and thats just a possibility ..lol

Get your bike... take the tires with your.. and have an automotive shop mount them after you split the rims.. clean them up silycone seal them yourself.

* should be able to mount them urself in a matter of minutes...the 2 piece rims are very simple and easy...unless * dont want the hassle..

install them yourself it really ant that heard, i always did my 185s split rims and i had no problem bolt the two peices together take water and a air compressor start pumping up the tire with your knee pressing down on the tire, then take the water and poor it around the bead... the water will act as a sealer,, and walla in about 10 minutes you have one tire on then two and in 30 minutes your wheeler is up and your puttin up tree stands

just put some doe piss sent in the gas tank of the z-inger and go put up your tree stands LOL

Seal those rims up with something.

and the water idea is a good one.. but add dish soap liberally.. helps.

Compressed air is the only thing you really should have to make it easier.. you can always mount the tires.. take them to a gas station and use the air line.

I run an Automotive shop and I have thrown away every set of 2 pice rims that I have ever had, they are a pice of crap and a very poor design. If they were so great why do you think that everything ever made that used to run split rims now use solid rims? There are no pros to running split rims only cons and a lot of them. But to answer your ? the best way to deal with split rims is not trying to seal them with silicon or gaskets , just throw a tube in there and forget it.

I have the original 2 piece rims on 3 of my trikes & as long as the oring seal in between the two halves is in good shape, I have never had a problem. Don't use silicone or any type of adhesive sealant though, it just makes them hard to take apart down the road some day. Just my $.02. I actually prefer the 2 piece rims, makes it real easy to swap tires back & forth between trikes. You can do it yourself & the price is right. ( Free )

I have had several machines with two piece rims and have no problems with them. Just make sure your o-ring between the two halves is good, that there ia no rust on mating surfaces and that you dont bend the mating surfaces and they should be fine

I know that on some tires they say right on the side wall "do not use on two piece wheels" Well I have a set of ohotsu or however you spell it tires on my 90 and they say do not use on two piece wheels. If you use the CORRECT things to seal up the tire and wheel you shouldn't have a problem I know on my 90 when I was changing the tires on it there are actually "o" rings that go between the wheel halves these are cheap and I would put new ones in and/or run tubes. But yea dealers like to do things like that by the book, I believe it is more of a liability issue than an actual rule.

I didnt mind getting the ITP rims for $30 each, but I asked about the front because these new rims are all offfset and junk and I figured ITP doesnt make a Front Rim that Style and Size.

They just told me the Split Rims were useless and outdated because you can only mount OEM Tires on them. I dont want to deal with the Tire Mounting Process because of my back and my Short Patience for things that allread should have been done.

Im going in there tomorrow, and im gonna try to keep cool, see what these fools know, and what they are gonna do for me.

Wow they are stupid, you can mount bout any tire to a split rim without problems, just get the proper o-ring from the hardware store for the middle of it, works fine, havent had a problem on anybikes i have had with split rims....

What is the most upsetting is the poor communication they had with you and such slow service. Keep your cool though and maybe they could work something out for you.

Those tires you got, I just got one myself for a front tire on an SX. Just installed on rim today. They are nice tires for the price.
