one of the bolts that attaches the carb to the head has broken off in the hole!!!!!!!!! HELP how do i fix this?????!?!?
is there any of it to grab what so ever ? is the boot stuck on ?
if you have at least 1 mm sticking out of the head itself with the carb boot removed.. get someone with a wire feed welder to weld a nut with the inside diameter the same size as the stud sticking out .. then while it's still hot. back the sucker out.

those suckers usually arent too tight...hopefully you have something to grab onto it with.
Good idea bigredhead I have done that alot to remove exhaust bolts on autos. another thing that I have done is go to the auto parts store and get a left handed drill bit that is one size or two smaller than the bolt and start driling in the center (nickle bolts this will not work on) the bit will catch and will pull the bolt out if you are carefull

TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I'd jack it up so PB blaster (penetrant) could seep in for a day or two then have at it with a channel lock before you call in the welders.
I've done the drill thing too..but get that catalyst in there for a couple days first.

If you have anything to grab on, heat it, soak it with penetrant, heat and soak, heat and soak until it loosens up. If there's anything sticking out but you can't grab it good enough, cut it off flush with a whizzer. This will allow you a nice smooth surface to start drilling. If it's broke below the surface, do the best you can to find the exact center and centerpunch it, then drill out to one size below the diameter of the hole. If you hit the exact center, by the time you get close to the bolt size pieces will start to chip out and the threads wil still be there. If you have reverse drill bits, they might work if the bolt isn't that tight. If you drill it out and weaken it a bit, the reverse bits might be able to grab it and wind it out. If you miss the center, you'll have to get a heli-coil kit, drill the hole out larger, and install the thread insert. Heli-coils work great in situations like this. Whatever you do, take your time, be patient, and do it right the first time.

Anybody have parts to trade for the above models?
the drill bit thing is a good idea.. but requires removing the thing from the frame to get at it... wich sucks in most cases. will break headpipe bolts along the way.. rusty frame mounts etc.........
Highly consider the welder idea !!

theres not even a bit sticking out
that sucks man.....
if you can drill a tiny hole in the center of that sucker... you " Might " be able to solder a stainless steel nail in there enough to get a few turns out of it... but it looks like you might have to get that motor out of the frame !!!.... and that's no fun.
Looks like a reverse drill bit is the next best option ..

whats that? is that just drilling a bit into it and backing it out?
nope.. there are actually drill bits that drill in the reverse direction... they twist the other way...
seriously !!! never seen them myself.. but alot of guys her swear by them.
The idea is that as you drill into it .. with the drill in reverse.. it will grab enough to twist the bolt out as it drills into it at the same time. once it comes out an 1/8th or more.. grab that sucker with vice grips and take it out

Its a left hand drill bit, you drill with the drill in reverse. They work great use them all the time at work.

the way i have taken out a few exhaust bolts that are stuck is to centre punch the bolt as central as possible, then drill with a normal drill quite small at first the just keep getting bigger until you are 1mm smaller than the bolt(0.5mm of thread on each side) this should allow you to collapse the remaining parts of the thread in on itself and pick it out. after just run a tap down it to make sure its nice and clean and your done. i had to do this the other day as some animal hadnt bothered to cut a bolt down on the exhaust an tightened it up so much it snapped off![]()
