Question feel like a ****** asking or even suggesting this but....

Imagine puting these atv tracks on a 250r.....
Sounds dumb and retarded at first but when you realize that I live in NH and I have snowy winters, it starts to seem kinda cool. you could also jerry-rig a ski to the front forks lol. Supposibly if you buy those tracks they bolt right on, what do you think....Stupid but could have advantages, I could go on Snowmobile only trails and get around in the DEEP snow......

Turning would be a big issue....

and to have this on a machine with no reverse would also be a chore !!!!!

I think you'd go thru alot of clutches on an R with those.

I am sort of wondering if those atv tracks could handle the rpm's put out by an R???
I need replies from people who live up north!

I've ridden them. Everything i posted is very accurate.

Good luck keeping the front wheel down. and if you could get it up to speed.. they would handle the speed just fine...

They are geared down internally to give you leverage on the tracks.. you have to take off in 2nd and keep the rev's going all the time.. as soon as you let off you'd come to a dead stop in 10 ft.

Yep... I've seen a 450R ( or might have been a 400 EX )with a set at the dealership with ski's on the front... Looked real cool tho !

On a 4x4 the front ones help you steer.. and you have to be moving to turn.. like a non powersteering semi.

I don't think I would have much of a problem keeping the rev's up, lol...... It would definatly create some wear and tear on the trike, but as long as the engine could handle it I'd just go through like 1 clutch every winter or so....
too bad those tracks are so much $$$ or else I'd try it!!!!

I saw some pics at work (Boeing) of a track landing gear system that was being developed just after the WWII. It looked crazy.

actually there is a dealer for them down the road from me, like 2 mins....they suck. they came to my schools maple expo last year with a 600 twin polaris and it get s stuck in snow pretty damn easy.....total waste of like 5 g's in my opinion... but hey, one of the local fire deptartments/ rescue squads bought a 700 with them on it... they also have a 3/4 ton chevy with the tracks on it(obviously made for the trucks) that is setup and is used for grooming trails....they seem to work good on the trucks but not so great on the wheelers...

if i saw a 250r with tracks on any snowmobile trail rutting it up all crappy, make that any 4 wheeler or 3 wheeler, i think i would personally stop and beat them over the head with the tracks. Groomers spend countless hours grooming and getting the trail rideable and enjoyable for all snowmobilers, ruts are the hardest thing to get rid of and very dangerous when you ride into one at 65-70. Do us all a favor and buy a snowmobile to ride on trails in the winter, if you need to ride trails.

No one has pointed out the fact that a 250R is powered by a small two stroke engine. Come on man, use some common sense. No way in hell will that two stroke turn them things with out totally wiping out your engine? Not to mention the frame and suspension damage that may result as well. Think about what a R is for. Use the correct tool for the job.

Those tracks are designed for like the torque monster 600cc+ 4 stroke quads. Raping those onto a 250R would be like putting an f1 car engine in a big rig it wouldn't even drive.
