E-Bayers Beware !!!!

I just went thru a terrible experience with my e-bay account and I just wanted to let you all know about it.It all started a week or so ago when in my e-mail list I started getting 50-100 e-mails a day of people who wanted to know where there items were and when they were going to recieve them.After a day of this ,confused I might add,and with hostile people e-mailing me by the minute,e-bay shut my account down.I had no clue of what had happened ,I had already contacted e-bay via e-mail and live help but of course live help was offline for maintence,and to make things worse and stressful I had just sold items ,and had no way to complete the sales.Anyways with my account suspended I had to contact my legit buyers and tell them about the situation and pray they would understand! Bottomline is that someone got my passwords and other vital info,"have no clue how",and used my ID to sell stuff ,e-bay investigated and suspended my account for my safety! Anyways I had to go and change all my passwords etc.and confirm with e-bay live help who I actually was,and now I am up and running again. I am proud that I have a 100% feedback and this really made me stressed to no end,and alot of you on the forum ,I have dealt with before and know how I like to ,have you buy from me again! So please watch your accounts and change yor passwords frequently and be as secure as you can because if this can happen to me ,it can happen to anyone,and I know I am not the only person this has ever had this happen too! I hope this never happens too any of you!!!!!

I recieved E-Mail from Pay-Pal, some crap about updating or some thing. Anyway It Looked Just Like Pay-Pal when I went to the site but I never filled it out because I figure they allready have my info and if they need to contact me they can do it by phone. I recieved 2 of these E-Mails and Im allmost positive they are scams, because the golden rule on the net is to never give out your info. Why would Pay-Pal need all my info and Password.

Keeep an Eye out for this one and dont fill it out.

I dont know if you got one like that or One like that but for E-Bay. I seem to remember some E-Bay mail like that. I change my Passwords once a year

I'm having an even more mysterious problem with ebay. They think I'm someone else and won't give me an explanation.

My account is older than the one they claim is my "previously registered" account. They have some real brain power working over there.

There are scammmers out there posing as ligit companies. The emails look like they were sent from a ligit company but in essence the scammers are hard at work to fool you. Dont send any personal info in response to any email request. Always contact the company first before divulging any info. Don't forget these emails look like the real thing but are not. BTW The porn sites will get your info when you access them.

Use SamSpade to lookup the whois info on any sites you may suspect as being fraudulent. The registrant info for companies like Pay-Pal and Ebay won't read "Peter J. Puffer, 123 Myanus Ave, Uranus, WI." You can also run a check of the server's IP and see if it falls in the correct range. Then report fraudulent sites to their ISP (if they aren't hosting themselves). For example, this website is hosted by GoDaddy and the IP and servers used to host it are readily available. Reporting abuse would be a very easy thing to do.

The info to finger these crooks is out there, and even if they can't be brought down at least you won't be either.

BTW - there are ways to avoid your info being "sent" to certain companies when you open e-mails. They typically get your info because your email client uses the http protocol to download and display any pics in the e-mails. Basically, your computer is accessing their server and leaving a fingerprint. Set your mail reader (or browser) to block images either altogether or only on say yahoo.com or whatever your webmail service is. In most email clients you will be able to click to show the pics if they are from a trusted person or site - you get control. It is also a good idea to run Tor and Privoxy all the time and some form of PGP for your emails. It may seem like overkill, but just ask anyone who has been burned if it is worth it.
