Thumbs up Tri-Z maiden voyage..two thumbs up!!

    Hey folks,
I took my recently-acquired '85 Tri-Z for it's maiden voyage on the trails behind my house this afternoon.
    • My first observation as I entered the woods was that it rides like a Caddy compared to my '86 R. VERY compliant suspension action.

    • Second observation was that I found myself sitting down and DRIVING the Z in places where I'd be up on the pegs with the R. And where I would stand, it performed like a Trials Bike....which I'm sure had a LOT to do with the following point...

    • Thirdly...I'm sure this is due to the DG "Fatty-type" pipe and silencer and V-Force reeds, but that thing will pull right off of Idle and chug/bog/climb/crawl VERY much like a little 4 stroker up hills, through trails and creek beds like I've never experienced with a 2 stroker. What an odd feeling....GREAT just different for me since I'm used to my more "high strung" 100% stock '86 250R.

I've been a Honda man for YEARS but I HAD to pass along this 100% positive Yamaha-experience. It really left a great impression.
I was all smiles as I took off my helmet upon arriving home.

Sounds great man! We had a chance to pick up a Z, but lack of funds put that idea down.

Sounds Like a great first ride. Very similar to Darius's assessment when he did his mini shootout. Glad to hear you had a great time, that sweet Z will give you many more good rides. I think your blood may be turning from red to yellow.

Other smaller or lesser known companies, such as Tiger ATV, Franks, and Cagiva, produced racing three wheelers, but in much smaller numbers. Few of these machines are known to exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

Yeah MO350X that was pretty much my take on my 85 when I got it a few years ago. I had ridden nothing but 84 & 86 KXT for years. I really liked the extra lowend from the Z mill. I also noticed the cushy feeling. At the time mine had the stock swingarm and the stock 25" front and stock 22" rears and I think that's allot of why it felt so smooth. On the down side, It didn't slide as well as my 86 or 84 KXT and it felt "rolly" to me with the 22" balloon rears. With the tires I run today it feels very stable.

    They are excellent rides.

The Z does have excellent low end power and torque. I've got the same setup of pipe and reeds on mine. Congrats on the new acquisition!

Well done my friend. I also noticed the incredible bottom end compared to other 2 strokes I have driven in the past. It will crawl just like you said, and she rides like a caddy. Have a good time with her!
