I hear you....the first time I saw that figure (.003") I couldn't believe it.
But it's right.
Take your time and you'll do fine.
Don't forget to check the decompression lever/cable adjustment while you're there. It's easy and very important.

yep .003", alot of the atcs use this clearance.

That is the specs. I have my intakes set at .003 and my exhaust at .006. It will let it rev a little higher.
