I have 3 1982 XL500R's. My best one is licensed and insured and I ride it all over the place, great in the woods too. One of the others has a new 10.5 to 1 Wiseco but I can't find the valves! I have 2 sets and they are in a zip lock bag at my dads and I can't find them. The third is a parts bike, it's missing the gas tank, seat and exhaust. I have a XR500R which has tons more power due to the fact that it's an RFVC motor but it's not street legal.
Are you getting a title with it? I got the title with mine but it had white out on it so that was fun to straighten out, I got it though. I've got the turn signals on it and everything. Gets 55-60 miles per gallon, that's nice instead of 10 mpg in my Bronco. I don't think you can change it to mono shock but my 1982's are mono shock. Where are you located? I could possibly sell you a rolling mono shock frame then put your motor in it. I saw you were selling a 350X, maybe we could work out a partial trade for some XL parts?
I'm really familiar with these bikes so if you have and questions I think I can answer them.

thanks for the reply,i am located in southern maine,i'll have to pass on bike parts for now but will keep you in mind. i know what you mean about that bronco,i used to have a1979 bronco, killer mud truck but hard to keep gas in it. i really like the idea of being able to drive down the road without looking over my shoulder for troopers.trails are getting closed left and right around here but nobody ever complains about dirt bikes.hope to get my hands on the bike within the week,i'll post some pics....thanks again

We own a 78 xl350 and that bike is heavy. It weighs something over 300 pounds and is not ideal for offroading. it is a great bike for around town and maybe to take camping in case of a trip into town, but you wont enjoy taking it on trails that require much suspension travel and a flickable bike. If you are looking at a good bike to go cruising around town etc it is awesome just not for anything that a real off road bike is good at.
i personally love the XR500R's but like stated, not legal, i have been lookin into the XR500's and the Xl and the only difference i see is the Xl is street legal has turn signals, and i was told a difference tranny, but i say props man your gettin a cool bike,
