I raced 85 tri-z and then 86r. The r had more low end. Short shifting was the key. My 6-3 frame was a little cramp. The shocks were better and was more reliable atc. The 85 tri-z
liked being on the pipe (I like riding that way) The shocks were to desire (86 tri-z were much better) My size was great on it. Reliability was to desire also. I loved them both but:
Which one is like the chevy/ford/dodge ect question. Shocks would be Tri-z down fall. If you asked about the 86 models, toss up
Its all personal prefence, one thing I noticed about riding my 85 Z then a 85 R was the room, The Z felt much more comfortable im about 6'1" 200lbs, the Z did like bein on the pipe as stated above and yet agian reliability is also an issue with the Z, but for the most part if you take care of it it will take care of you.

To me, my 85 Z feels like a more tall and stretched out ATV. More room on it. My 85 R feels short and low.
