Need some help...look at this carb

I acquired this carb in a package deal of parts and was told that it is a 36mm Mikuni carb for an 85/86 250R. I was wanting to trade it for a 34mm stock carb so I posted it on the classifieds. I sent pics of the carb to someone and was told that it appears to be a dirtbike carb and not an ATV carb. Beings I dont have a lot of experience with carbs I figured I would draw from the well of knowledge on the board. I was under the impression that if it fit, meaning that the carb boot fit, the air box tube fit, the fuel inlet was on the correct side etc. that it would work. I guess my question is how does a dirtbike carb differ in design to an ATV carb and should I even consider using this carb...heres a pic.....

    carbs

They don't. The main concern is where the fuel inlet is. I have run different carbs on bikes and that is the only "issue" I have come across. The mm of the carbs and the jetting will change performance, but many carbs are interchangable. I run Kenin 39 PWK's on my bikes. The 39PWK gets used on all sorts of bikes, including racing Motorcycles. There are guys that run them on older model race bikes like CBR900RR's that were carburated. They also use them when they install a trubo on a lot of street bikes.

If a carb can be used in that wide of a range, I'm sure that whether it's a "dirtbike" or "ATV" shouldn't matter. If they can graft a Pilot 400cc motor onto a 250R, a carb change is not an issue. A 2 stroke dirtbike and a 2 stroke ATV are very similar motors. I prefer Kehin over Mikuni (I have both) but both should work fine.

Thanks for the info guys..and thanks for the heads up on the jet kit blazerone. So if I understand you correctly there are no differences in the design of the carb other than say jetting or other tuneables stuff? I was also told that it would not offer the same performance of an "ATV" carb....I am assuming this is not the case....this is good news..thanks again.

I agree with ChrisD (nice to see you again!) Ill just add, probably even harder to work around is location of the choke. A lot of ATVs only have access to one side of the carb, and if choke is on the wrong side, life could be difficult.
