Holy cow BRH what an adventure!
Wish I had of been there! That's one of the things I like best about triking, no ,not the breakdowns, but the encounters with the critters.

Good luck with the repairs, bud....

    Thanks.

I'm really praying that not too much damage was done the the axle and diff and hubs and drive shaft.. the whole thing had to wobble around horibly.

With any luck only the bearings will need replacing.. and i just did them not 6 months ago too !!... ALL of them ! eesh..

The *-joint on the drive shaft kept knocking on the swingarm housing and rattled the foot pegs pretty good.. Turning left was ok, but turning right meant laning WAY over to keep as much ballance as possible while holding all your weight on the right foot peg.

I should have the new swingarm tomorrow or tuesday.. from NovaScotion.. just a few hours from here !!

20 $ for the swingarm.. all new bearings.. again = at least 80 $ easily, I just hope the pivot bolt on the new swingarm is in good shape ! might even beef it up before i install the thing just for the hell of it !

All hills and big boulders and ruts.. and could'nt use the back brakes at all. and my front suck cuz i have the wrong cable for it !

I have a spare frame in the garage.. in perfect condition too.. so i'm due for a buildup !

Sorry to hear about the SX. Better that it broke while you werent doing something knarly though i guess. Really cool on the fox though, you almost dont even see them around here because all the rednecks kill them at first sight for some reason....

hey i resent that. lol, as long as people hunt them legally its fine. hunters are getting too bad of a rep today, and we dont deserve it.

good luck with the sx, bigredhead, sounds like it was a good trip other than the rear end problems.

It was a gradual failure.. thank god.... no more than an hour before it all started i had my friend on it while i rode passenger on the quad.

He got it up to 98 km/h gonig down a hill ( he's had many trikes before. so he's a good rider btw )

I can't even imagine the result of the thing letting to and ropping out at that speed !.. catastrophic !

The red star on " Hillsborough ". is in the area we were in.

We left from moncton on truck and trailer.. crossed to Riverview.. drove along the river up Turtle Creek.. and rode the bikes along the trails all along the mountain all the way UP " Canada Hill " and down the otherside.. it's about 150 km's if you take the sceenic tour thru the woods !

Awsome place to ride !.. but you better like HILLS !

Monster 84R. Dont take what I said the wrong way. I hunt every year when the season comes around, but I hunt what I am after, not blast everything that gets in front of the barrel. To my knowledge there is no season here on Foxes, so I dont think that you are supposed to hunt them or kill them at all around here.

You would be game to eat a fox, they are far from edible.

I have had nothing but problems with the 85 style swingarm and axle. I now run all 86/87 setups on both my SX's and they are much stronger. I have a 25 foot table top I clear and a huge 7 foot launching pad that the SX leaps off also. I am very surprised that I haven't broke the SX yet but it still seems to be working great. I'll post some pictures for you guys if I can get my neighbor to shoot some because noone would believe it unless they see it. The problem is that you need the entire 86/87 setup not just the swingarm and I have seen very few for sale with the axle, hubs and brakes. You'll pay a fortune buying one piece at a time....

    Well.. i agree 100 %.

I got my new swingarm about an hour ago. ( i'll post pictures later but the E-bay add says it all .. mostly )

The top of the swingarm where the tow hitch bolts on has the studs welded in place.. and the bottom holes look kinda.. uhhm..thread free .

The rest of it actually looks pretty good tho. the pivot bolt on the left side is rust coated with grease mixed in.. i have to clean it all up.

The welds look solid.. the flanges are flat, the shock mount is still solid but i'm considering sand blasting this sucker and taking it to my meighbor's shop to get TIG'ed and re-inforced in key areas.

I"D LOVE to get my hands on an 86 up model rear end, however. it would be a fluke to fall upon an entire setup that still works withoug just buying a whole bike with a toasted motor. ( and by that time. the rest of it is usually worthless.. damn you honda for making such a tough motor !! )

I'm taking this thing apart tomorrow night if possible and am praying that my diff and axle and left side tube are still in ok shape.. minus all the bearings i'm sure.

But. for the 20 $ plus 10 for shipping.. i'm back in action.. just have to spend a few hours. that turn into days.... is it always like this ????

    WOHOOO !!!

Got my rear end all taken apart.. everything is still in good shape.

My axle is just fine.. my drive shaft knocked the living hell outa the outer tube on the swingarm and chewed the swingarm metal but the *-Joint is in perfect shape phew.

the rear axle bearings are still tight and have absolutely no play in them. thank god i can re-use them..
