I have a set of rear atc two peice rims with bald tires on it. i bought a new pair of tires thinking it wouldn't be too hard to get the old ones off and mount the new ones. my question is how do i get these old tires off these rims? how do i mount the new ones? I've never done it before.
so what are some of your tricks to doing this? i'd like to do it myself with out sending them out to get mounted. help me!

If you are close to a garage.. take them to have done..
Otherwise.. search on here .. there are about 100 different ways to go about.
from:
1- Cut them off !.. rude and crude
2- take the air out as much as possible and drive over the side of it with your truck to break the bead..
3- Pry-Bars ( seems to almost never work.. )
etc. et.c etc....
once you break the bead.. then take the rims apart..

ok well i dont want to ruin the bald tires, im giving then to my friend, because he wants them for some reason.
also i asked the tire shop down the street and they said that they wont do atv tires.

Always use lube like dish soap around the beads and try a large C clamp to break it and some tire spoons to remove the rest.If you have trouble breaking the bead you can also try using a large chisel or icebreaker and a bigby hitting the bead all the way around 1 or 2 times and then slam on it with your foot.Take your time and you will figure it out.

one more question. I've never had anything to do with tires, but if you break the bead does that mean its acctually "broken" and you have to get a new one or can you reuse the same bead thats on there already

If its a 2 piece rim it should come off prety easy, with two big screw drivers. The new tires you wont have to use the sealing ring that is in the original tires. I did all my own tires with 2 screw drivers and a little muscling. Just spray it up with soap and water or some silicone spray.

Only an atv shop will to atv tires, due to the amount of presure it takes to break a bead it has to be a different machine. The guy at my local atv shop showed me what it does. He charges 15 dollars a side because he has to buy a new one every year because it takes a beatin.

Not true. There are auto shops that will break the beads for next to nothing. The one by the mall here did all 4 of mine for free (it was close to quitting time anyways).Originally Posted by trikes4life

To "break" the bead...you dont actually break anything. All you are trying to do is slide the bead of the tire off the raised portion of the wheel. Sounds a lot easier than it actually is.one more question. Bald tires are only good for fires.... that's pretty much it !
By the term " Breaking " .. what this means if breaking the seal between the tire and rim.. once the tire comes off the top lip then you can take your rim out and home free.
But consider that tire toast.. useless.. nadda.. no good for anything.

well yeah but im not the one using the bald tires anyways.
not entirely true... slick doughnuts and easy burnouts, also fun to slid around on some grass when you get bored!But consider that tire toast.. useless.. nadda.. no good for anything.

What you need in that case is a 2nd set of rims !
