does anyone know a good piston kit for my big red? Don't need one right now, just want to know. oh yea, when i looked, there was like 66mm, 65mm, 65.5mm? what would work?

not sure. prob. not because the headgaskets seem pretty old and i think it doesen't have very good compression. it doesen't burn oil or anything, but i can pull it fairly easily without using the decompressor.

should i bore it? never had any luck with it tho. i had my Yamaha bored and it burned oil shortly after.

Don't unless you have to.
A bore job will require a new piston and rings.. new gaskets, may as well have the valves and seales done at the same time.. timing chain usualy can handle a replacment.. and the tensioners.......
All this contributes to a good rebuild that will last a long time.. but damit it costs alot of $$$..

This will depend on teh size and condition of your cylinder.
Take the cylinder to the place you plan to buy your piston from they will need to "Micrometer " it to determine it's size and they can also check if it requires a bore or not.
Need the tools of the trade for this one !

ok, what kinda places do it. machine shops? atv repair shops? don't want to spend to much money, its got a slight bend in the axle that might need to be fixed too.

Some machine shops do. You have to check around your area.
when you get it bored bring them the piston too. Most pistons come with a spec. sheet.
If no spec sheet find out the min. and max bore for that piston, and tell them to bore to the min. spec. A lot of shops will bore to the max or in between. and you loose that much life off the bore job.

You would have to have it check at a shop to see if youit in specs to run as is. they will tell you if it needs to be bored. they will tell you what size it is .

coveredinmudd, Without pulling the motor apart and measuring the cylinder / piston NO ONE can telly you what size you have or if you need to bore it at all. The best we can do is to give you some advise. And I can say without a doubt the best advice is: IF your cylinder does end up needing bored out, ONLY bore it enough to clean it up. Going this route will help keep your motor running for a longer time.
If you can't do the work yourself then take Dad's adivce. He is 100% correct, a good shop will tell you what you need.
