    Need opinions; debating stroker

My 200x bottom end needs to come apart because of rod bearings etc.. Well I am sort of debating the powroll stroker. Do they shorten the rod too?
Is this mod going to majorly change the life span of the bottom end?
and lastly is the cost going to be worth the power gain?...
also one last question what is it that is changed about the piston?.. cause it says need to use powroll piston or modified piston...

Thanks, Let me know if I should go for it or not.

powroll pretty much leaves the rod alone and moves the rod pin 3mm to give it the full 6mm stroke. the powroll piston has a modified skirt so it does not hit the crank shaft on a down stroke

Well if they dont shorten the rod, that means the piston is going to be going 3mm higher... isnt that going to be running damn close to the valves?..
Also if you running a 12:1.. or wtv you are running, its going to bumb the compression up even more.... :S ..

In my opinion stroker kits that shorten the rod suck. You loose the leverage on the crankshaft. Your rod angle also becomes less favorable which can cause extra wear on the piston, piston slap and oil consumption. I've done tons of research on strokers since I built one for my Mustang. My car actually has more stroke and longer rods than stock if you can figure that out.

Sounds like the Powroll kit would be a great choice, since they don't shorten the rod. I wouldn't think it would shorten the life of your bottom end at all, but that's just opinion. I would go for it.

They move the wrist pin up in the piston that way the piston stops at the same point it always did.

that makes sense, but are you sure?.. cause the pistons that they list, it seems as if you can use them with the stroker, or with stock stroke, and there is no option.. http://www.powroll.com/P_HONDA_ATC200X.htm
also if the wrist pin is moved up well the problem I have is I would always have to buy a powroll piston, and they only offer 66mm, no other sizes aval... :S (atleast they dont list them)

I was just going off of what atcwrench said. I don't know much about the 200X stroker kit but just general stroker information. It does say you can use that piston with the stroker or a stock stroke. That leads me to believe the do shorten the rod which works but I don't like it (my opinion). I think you're best bet is to give them a call.

The fastest and most torguey 200X I ever owned had a stroker kit installed, it was a night and day diff. between stock and stroker. My dad owned a 86 350X back in 1986 when I had my 84 200X stroker, It would walk off and leave the 350X in a short distance. Even in a long run he would need almost a 1/4 mile to catch me. This trike would lift the front end in fourth gear with ease. I only owned this trike for 2 years before I sold it so im not real sure on durability, all I can tell you is for the 2 years I owned her she was very reliable.

Sorry about that, I failed to mention that it also had a mid to top cam and a hi comp. wisco piston. I also run my dads 110 oct. race gas he had for his drag bike, he used to buy by the drum so I could sneak a little out without him knowing lol. It was a beast for a 200X. Wish I still owned it, I regretted selling it the day I sold her.

I'm in the process of building my x motor now. I'm fixing to send my crank to Powroll and have the work done. I'm not going to be using their piston though. Once I get the crank back, I'll be using a 10:25 to 1 wiseco in it but you have to do alot to the piston to make it work. About 3mm of the top edge around the piston has to be taken off down close to the first ring land. Then the top of the piston has to be worked on as well. The piston of course will be 3mm further up in the combustion chamber so you'll either have to move the wrist pin location or cut down the piston. By cutting down the piston, you should still have over 12:1 because remember the top of the piston is still up 3mm more. Then you have to put it all together and check all clearances very closely. If I can get this damn camera of mine to work, I'll post some pics of one piston already done. It's all kinda hard to explain so a pic should help. You can use the 12:1 but there has to be a whole lot more work to make it work and you'll still end up with the same thing. Oh, and yes the skirt has to be cut down like ATCWRENCH was saying.

Why not use the powroll piston that was specially designed to work with their stroker mod?

Powroll do shorten the rod . The Wiseco piston just needs to have the skirt recut. I would use a 10.5 -1 comp. You do not have to touch the top of the Wiseco piston at all. If you use a standard piston, it has to be skirted and the valve reliefs cut but only if you run an aftermarket cam.
As far as reliability goes, they are bulletproof. I have been using mine weekly for 10 years and have had no probs at all. In my Project X engines, the cylinder is laying down. If rod angles were going to be an issue, these are the ones it would effect the most but it is definately not an issue. With the standard upright 200X engine this rod angle factor is even less.

Yea, I just read on the Powroll site that they sometimes shorten the rod on some combinations. I emailed them to find out if they do it on the 200x or not. If they do, yes, you won't have to do anything to the top of the piston. And why not use their piston already modified, well they only have the one 66mm piston shown. I'd rather use my own and make it any size I want. But I'm sure if you give them a call and send them any size piston, they will modify it for you. I'm wanting to do this motor exactly the way my TC motor was done, except the Powroll crank (which is the same as the TC anyway) . I know how reliable it was and the power it made, so I'm going to stick with it. Back in the day, the Powroll motors would not hold together on the big tracks where they were wide open and revving high all the time. I don't know if that's because of the shorter rod or what. If they do shorten the rod on a x, I won't be sending my crank to them. I'll just send it on to TC. I knew I could get it back quicker and cheaper from Powroll than TC. I've already talked to Tom and he said that they don't shorten the rod on their motors. There's a million different ways to build an engine, I guess it just comes down to the owners preference on how they want it built. But the stroker is the only way to go.

So TC doesn't shorten the rod? I would go that route. When you shorten the rod you're gonna loose power (compared to a longer rod). You lose leverage on the crank. Just compare it to a bolt you can't break loose. If you put a pipe on the rachet to make the rachet LONGER, you can put more force on it, same thing.
Catfish, tyler54 is selling a TC dual plug motor in the classified section. I bought a 225DX from him and I've seen it.
