    185s help fast!!!!

I got my honda back from my friends farm this weekend and he said that he haad been riding it alot while i wasnt there. I piked it up at his house today and it was running fine just the idle was high. i got home and put it in the garage for a minute and then started it up again, gave it alittle gas and it revved really high and wouldnt stop so i killed it. it does this everytime it not in gear. the idle was perfect when i brought it up to his farm and now its almost all the way out and it still idles high. it still over revs when I give it gas too. i dont know if it matters but its running alittle rich and its never had a rebuild, and it doesnt smoke much if any. what do you think i should do? I have to have it running nice before saterday next week. oh yeah and the engin starts knocking when its idling, but not reall bad

If you think it needs a rebuild what should i do to it? how much do you think it will cost? should i bring it to a honda mechanic?

he also said that his dad was riding really long wheelies and riding on two wheels for long lenghts. i heard somewhere that long wheelies are bad for you engin and maby thats what did it? just another thought.

I thought that putting the idle screw (a/f screw I think they call it) out turned it up? I might be wrong though. I'm not too good with engines.

turning the screw in raises the slide height, thus raising the idle speed.

I had a few problems with high revving instantly on my quad, and it was because of the throttle cable. Make sure its not binding at either the thumb throttle or in the top of the carb/slide, and that nothing is pinching the cable on the frame, just holding it in place.

Also, an air leak could cause what you are experiencing. Check all off the clamps and hoses on both sides of the carb (intake and between the motor and carb boot, sometimes they rot out.)

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

well i now that the previous owner sealed to carb boot once with gaskit filler beacuse it cracked. if it is rotted out do you know where i could get a new one?

i figured it out! the top of the carb where the carb slide goes in to hold it in place somehow wiggled it self loose, and was letting too much air in.
