People who have this magazine can you go to page 119. It shows a yellow 250 yamaha 3wheeler that they say it's a tri-z but it's not. What the hell is it?? It says 250 on the fender and yamaha on the tank. Im lost! Plus their is a sweet Z on PG 48 with nerf bars.

Pre tri-z. Memory serves me they raced that some where between late fall to early spring. It was a indoor race. With the looks of the kaw @ honda that would put it 83-84 winter. The yamaha is like the ones used during that time special built . I be glad to find info on that if needed. Most likely in ATV News.

Pic was from 12-83 issue, page 53. #31 Jimmy White, #51 should be Mark Weixeldorfer, #8 Unknown. ATV News Oct. issue had the race date as Aug 15-17. Promoter had 22 pros from lower 48 states ,and atc shipped there. locals also raced againts them . Two classes 200 and 250. The Yamaha's were special built to run the correct cc class. Don't know if the engines were Yz or It based.

Found in the June 1982 DirtWheels mag more info on Yamaha's of that time, Pg 56-59.IIIB (three-bee) Lightning Yamaha (Broc Glover, Billy Talley, and Bob "Ace" Williams.) They had frames for 125,175,250,and 465. The 175 was a IT base moter with claimed 32 hp (218 lbs). They were raced againts the 185 and 200 based suspended trikes. then 200x. The 250 had 37 claimed hp with a yz base moter(236lbs).

I now buy this magazine because of their recent respect and tributes to 3 wheelers. I love seeing the pics and this last issue has a quite a few. Go support them and buy the mag for those of you who havent seen it.
Wikipedia "All Terrain Vehicle" Definition excerpt
Other smaller or lesser known companies, such as Tiger ATV, Franks, and Cagiva, produced racing three wheelers, but in much smaller numbers. Few of these machines are known to exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

Yeah, it isn't a Z. It looks to me, based on the radiator, like it is built from an 82 YZ 250. I'd bet that the fenders are from a Tri-Moto 125 or 175. IIIB made a number of trikes around that basic theme. Way cool...

^^^ I disagree, if you get those angled ones that are sort of triangler looking it dosn't look half bad. I wouldn't do it but I can see why somebody would.

i think they look quite good and the reason they are there is good just think how painful it would be to catch your foot on a passing tree at 5-10 mph not good lol. i dont see many trees in that photo though
