wish i had some buyers skill...

rrr i bought a cosmetically nice machine, it started right up when i bought it, but i took it to get rebuilt and now i have to put another 600 into it... this sucks, it better run mint after this rebuild.. it needs new cam chain and sprocket, camshaft rebuild, new crankshaft, piston and rings valves, crank bearings... is there any cheaper way out other than a used motor that would end up costing the same and needing the same.. would it be cheaper to buy a hot cam or something.. what the he|| can i do!!?!?!!?!?!??!!

Spend the money and do it right the first time. Going the cheap way out will only lead to more problems and money later.

Yeah oldshell my is in about the same condition as yours I would say (needs all the same parts) I am gonna do it little by little... So far I have bought a xr200 camshaft and rocker cover.. (dont have it yet but money has been sent. Probably going to look for a rod soon, for $50 on ebay you can get yourself a new rod kit.. Why do you need a new crank? On mine the threads are stripped on the clutch side. That is probably fixable though.

Does anyone know/think a timing chain kit .. that consits of tensenor/guides cam chain and both sprockets is worth 65$ plus shipping?

The question you have to ask yourself is are you going to have the trike for awhile?.. If so put the money into it and then you should be able to get atleast a good 5 years out of it, depending on how you drive it.. (It lasted 20 years...)

Thats not a bad quote. $50 for a new rod, $80 for the install on crank. $110 for weisco piston and $40 on a bore, $60 for a cam(cheap), $30 cam chain and gears, $20 gasket kit. LABOR is priceless, thats why I do all my on work.

Order your parts online and do the work yourself. You'll cut that $600 in half most likely. As long as you have a manual and the right tools (and some patience) most of this stuff isn't that hard. I only use the shops for getting cylinders bored and things like that which require tools I don't have. I'm one of those weird people that thinks rebuilding trike engines is fun though.

When putting in a weisco piston make sure the arrow faces to the exaust, not the intake.
(Even though the clymer or OEM manual says to point it to the intake, that is only for OEM pistons!) And yes, I found that out the hard way.

    Good luck!
