Taking off the hub nut????

Well today I am going to paint my hub on my SX, but I can't get the nut off. The one on the other side (the side w/ the brake) came right off. This one is being a pain in the butt. Can anyone help me? I don't have the right size socket btw.. I'm using channel locks.

Get the right size socket. Soak the nut in WD-40, use a long pipe

Sorry guys.. this post was useless. Lol.. I waited for like half an hour, and noone had posted, so I decided to go out and try again. I took some of those vice grips (they're like plyers that you can adjust to hold onto things), and attatched them to the nut and gave it 3 good hits with a

and it came right off. It smelled quite bad when I took it off too, for some reason. Is tehre anything I should do to it while the hub is off?

Clean it good, with gas. And put some WD-40 on before you put the nut back.

It's possible that you were you grunting so hard to remove the nut that you crapped your pants. Just drop your shorts & take a quick look.

What you are smelling is the differential fluid, or the bearing grease. The older it is, the worse it smells. Put some anti-seize on the hub nut so it wont get stuck/rusted on again.

Buy a new hub nut to replace the one you just boogered up, and a socket set.

No.. I didn't try THAT hard to get it off. I put a little pressure on it and figured, "screw this" and went straight for the vice grips and

I paid 15 $ for mine and it's the last one i'll ever have to buy... please try not to use vise grips on stuff like that... my god man.

Make sure you put in a NEW cotter pin when you put that back together.. they are very important !

Also check your diff oil.... have you changed that lately ?

No. It needs changed. Where do I get it, what kind (as in.. regular oil, or some kind of special oil for the diff.), and what weight?

80w.. hypoid oil.

draint it.. and filll it up to the threads.. drive around.. draint it again.

it only takes a few ounces to a quart will last a long time !

I put a towel around the hub nut before I used the vices, just do I didn't tear it up... it worked just fine, surprisingly. I only had a 26mm socket and I was like "****!!!"

And thank you.. the last stage of my restore is changing all of the oil.. so I'll do that when its all done. Which doesn't look like its gonna be for awhile. I keep finding all of these little things I want done.

Next time use the right socket and air gun. Had it happen to me before. Make sure you put never seize on the treads so it never frezzesd up again.

how big is the Big red 250es hub nut anyways? would love to buy one.. I've always punched out a stud used a big adjustable and a pipe
