Thread: oiling UNI air filters (quick question)

    oiling UNI air filters (quick question)

    on a atc 110 i have a uni it has a inner yellow layer and red outer layer.
    Do I have to oil the outer and inner layer or just one?

    I havent cleaned it in about 2 years and i dont remember what i did last time.
    1986 350X K&N filter, DG Krome Power exhaust
    1982 110 UNI filter, Cobra megaphone exhaust

    id think if ya washed both, you would oil both. ive never had outters for my pleated k&n filters tho. just a good guess

    Put oil on the outside of the filter, and massage it in. Wipe any excess. You're done.

    what kind of oil? i'm in the same boat, both my trikes have UNI's.

    what other kinda (common type) oil can be used?

    are they dry when they are new in the box? K&N's come pre-oiled.

    i put mine on the way they came outta the box. hope i haven't messed up, cause it's been on the 200 for over 2 years.

    Uni's come dry. You need to oil the inside(yellow) and outside (red). I use PJ1 sticky spray on oil, its red.

    The PJ1 works great. Use to use bar and chain oil, but the PJ1 is much stickier and stays on much longer.

    Uni makes their own oil as well as their own cleaning agent.

    yeah trav you are supposed to oil them when you get em. it says so in the package!

    i have some klotz foam filter oil and some pj1 foam filter cleaner.
    you get a lot better value with these brands than with uni. twice as much of each for the same price!!

    you do not have to oil the yellow one. only the outer one.i know ive been doing this for 20 freaking years. why oil the inner so you suck all that sticky **** in the carb (NO). clean both but only oil the outer one.

    How can you squeeze the oil thru the outer without getting oil on the inner?
    Its going to get in them both wich is better any way. The course outer red part is going to catch the bigger particles of dirt. and the finner inner, yellow with the oil on it will catch the even finer particles of dirt/dust.
    Same with a mower foam filter you oil it to catch the fine particles of dirt/dust from going into the engine.

    UNI says to oil the inside(yellow) and outside (red). Evan if you only did the outside, dont you think the oil gets to the inside anyway?

    Proper way is to soak or spray both, Work it in, then squeeze the excess off.

    I sprayed oil on both and squeezed out the excess.

    After I did that I got a reply from UNI on the email i sent and they said to oil both.
