i love my yfz, i had two raptors in the past.. and they are VERY top heavy and heavy in general.. it will make an ok trail quad, but my yfz has soo much more snap... you would love one.. reline the seat, respring the carb for a lighter thumb and you will never turn back!
Ride it like you stole it! And never look back! They are too far behind to see!

Ok I'm not trying to be an ass or anything but BigAir660R I got a question. At what compression do you start running higher octane fuel? Because the 2004 and 2005 YFZs are 11.9:1 compression stock and the '06 is 11.4:1 stock.

all i know is that i know quite a few people with 450 and NONE of them run anything higher than 93 octane. also i dont think it says in the manuel anyware to run race gas. I really dont see them making a quad that requires it either. But i will aask a few friends to see what they saw about it. What about skippy up above he has one and i bet he dosnt run anything higher than 93. Anyways who knows.

Oh i know, its crappy. What do you guys think about me getting a cam for my raptor. Should i get a stage 1 or 2? How hard is it to install and can i do it with my engine in the frame? I have the following mods k&n, jetted, Alba pipe and big gun rev box. How much of a gain will i see compared to my pipe/jet install. Will i really notice it or is it like putting a high comp piston in where you dont see much difference at all? I heared thart only if you have sertain mods should you get the stage 2 cam other wise you actualy lose performance or something. How are the cams each during Low end mid and top end acceleration. I appreciate who ever can answer these questions. Also how will it compare to a yfz 450 with the best cam?

dosnt matter if you got a pipe, filter, jets, rev box and a cam, you will not be able to hang with a piped, filtered, and CAM Modded 450 its realality so just get over it. only way you will beat a 450 is to go bigbore as i told * before otherwise save your wasted money for modds to the raptor, save some more money. Sell the raptor and buy either a 450 or a banshee. But if you must have a cam the id stick with the stage one,w/ the mods you have done. Most people dont go to a stage 2 unless the have a high comp piston or go to a big bore, plus with the stage to you have to buy a spring and retainer kit wich isnt cheap about $200. plus what the cam costs.

I thought if i got everything the 450 has engine wise like high comp piston huge cam etc it would be faster then the yfz 450 with those mods, cause if both engines have the same performance mods then the bigger ones faster right. I know the 660 is choked up stock and once you free that up its a lot better. Does the 450 suck in more fuel and air then the 660, or does it just combust so much faster it does almost twice the work of the 660?

I am not wanting to start a pissin match here, but I Drag Race at organized events and I got an opinion about the Raptor VS the 450. Stock for stock, no question....450. Now, the thing to remember is....a 450 is basically in a VERY high state of tune from the factory where as the Raptor is choked down for the masses. You can add some stuff to the 450 and get a performance boost, but not as much as one would think. There really isn't anything major that can be done to it and have it remain a 450. You can bore & stroke them and such, but then there goes the relaibility factor. (No, not just a bore & stroke will do it, I mean the overall reliability after extreme modding) The Raptor on the other hand...lots of room to play. Cams, porting and airflow are very easy things to do with it and give BIG results. I have seen Raptors with just those mods walk all over Piped/jetted 450s. They turn faster ETs AND higher MPHs. (If they have the bike setup right...like stated before, tippy and topheavy) The timing lights don't lie. I think both machines are good at doing what they were designed to do. The 450 is a RACE bike and the Raptor is a TRAIL bike. I know from experience...you can build a Raptor to be as fast or FASTER than the 450 without that much work and still have a good solid reliable engine. Just my TWO.

yep i had to replace mine, and almost every one ive seen has had to be replaced or will at some point. Oh and if you do have to replace it besure to get the RSP aftermarket one cause if you put a stock yamaha one back in it, it will tear up again!

On Most Of The 770 Bikes Ive Worked On You Get Mabey 2 Dozen Starts And Then Its Gettin Torn Apartto Get A New One And The 770 You Have To Put A Lawnmowerbatery In It Just To Crank The Damn Think. The Stock Batery Is Useless For Theanythign Over The 727 Kits.

The Raptor has a big torque slower revving engine..
The 450 is a lightweight rotating mass engine, built to rev like a 2 stroke. The geometry of the 450 suspension is dialed in for mx. THe raptor is more of a trail machine..
