1984 honda 200es axle bearings
I just got my order in the mail i bought some axle bearings for my 200es and i have a few questions as ive never worked on one of these before.
if * have a axle that has play in it do * need to replace both the inner and outer bearings or do only the outside ones effect the axles play?
do these not have seals that cover the bearings because the kit i bought dosent have them i didnt know if * have to buy um extra or if they just dont have any

a kit usually consists of the bearings and the seals as package deal, ebay is a good place to look for a bearing kit and maybe even seals alone if you have just the bearings.
the outer race of the bearing is whats against the bearing housing when they are in and the inner race is what moves when its against the axle. the whole bearing should come out as one, inner and outer races. clean the bearing carrier up so no debris is in there and put just a smidgen of grease on the outer race of the new bearing and push it in the race as far as you can by hand making sure it is even all the way around the carrier.
when you cant push it in anymore grab a piece lumber, doesnt have to be very big, lay it over the top of the bearing and drive the bearing in slow with a
making sure the bearing is going in evenly until the wood is stopped by the carrier.
at this point use the old bearing to finish driving the bearing and the use a pair channel locks and turn the old bearing out. install new seal and you are done with one side. repeat the same steps for the other side.

yea the set i bought was off ebay and it didnt include any seals which sucks i might be able to reuse the old ones if they dont look to bad i guess.
above ** saying that when i pull the outer bearings out i can pull the inner bearings out the same way? or do i have to take the whole rear apart? to get to the inner bearings?

I have never worked on a big red before but if its like any other honda that I have worked on they are all pretty much the same.
the bearings should come out as one piece. they should come out the way they look.
take the axle out cuz it needs to come out to do the job. use a medium sized flat head screw driver and slide it under the seal from the inside and pry up on it and it should just pop out with little effort, if its stubburn work around it in a circle and it should pop out then.
if you have the new bearings look at them and then look at the bearings that are in the carrier, they should look identical to each other. since the big red swing arm is so wide you are going to need a long metal rod to drive the bearing out of the race(carrier) from the opposite side of the swing arm you are trying to get the bearing out of, i.e. drive the right side bearing out from the left side going through the swing arm. use a
and the rod and slowly tap on it in a circle to drive the bearing out evenly. if it doesnt move at first use a little more force.
once they are both out clean the carrier up and follow my previous post to install the new bearings and you should be good to go.
