    Help me, please

    Ok. I have two questions.

    1) I was putting the front-end back on my SX, and noticed this:

As you can see, the ground wire to the frame is connected to.. uhh.. nothing! There is a blue connecter with one wire going in, and two wires going out that it looks like it should be connected to, but I'm not sure. Is that where it goes?? If not, what should it be connected to?

    2) I was cleaning up/painting my shock, and I put it back together, and as soon as I got the last thing on, I noticed that I forgot to put this rubber piece back in:

Would it hurt to run it without that in there??

    Thanks.. Ben

The wire has electrical tape around it and looks like it came from that blue Scotch Lock ( I hate those things, they dont work worth a crap on a motorcycle) .

Look at the end of the wire and the wire coming out of the blue thingy up close, there should be a matching pattern on the ends.

Eliminate the blue thing and solder the wires together. In a pinch, get an orange wire nut like used in house wiring, they work very well if kept dry.

First, trace the two wires from that connector back & see where they go. It looks to me like someone has made a homemade ground set up on there. If those two wires are green (or connect to green) then they are ground wires & yes you can connect them back together. (I'm pretty sure that green is ground on the front of these SX's, but not 100%) If they appear to be power wires then don't connect them to that ground.

The rubber piece is a cushion that stops your shock from bottoming out hard, it should go back in there.
    A whole bunch of trikes.

Theres what it looks like. I couldn't get a good pic because it got out of focus when I got close. But one wire is black, and one is black with a red stripe. I don't know if those are the ground wires, or electrical wires. If they aren't where I connect the ground wire, where does it go?

That rubber thing should go back in as soon as possible.. if you bottom out without it you risk blowing out the rear shock.. and they are NOT servicable. you have to replace the shock portion if that happens.

To put around the yard you'd be fine.. but don't jump !

Follow those wires and figure out what they are connec to.... easy.

Then well.. basically an electrical circuit needs a + and - .. pos and neg.. so that connector should have 2 wires per side.. it's either the reverse .. or neutral.. or headlight or electric start... etc......

Do both your N and R lights work ?

    Does the electric start work?

Go thru all the items and you will find the answer.

If that connector is cracked or the wire is broken too far into the connector... either

1- Cut the wires and splice and solder them together directly and tape them with electrical tape properly sealed ( use shrink tubing if you have it. )

2- Get a new connector and splice it in.

Only reason #1 would suck is if it's the headlight wires and you wanted to remove it.. you would need to cut the wires... that's all.

Ahhh. I just thought of it. The Reverse light is always on. What would be causing that? And what does it matter if I just take that ground wire off?? It is connected to nothing, and you people say it isn't supposed to be there anyway. Or would the Reverse light not being grounded cause it to be on all the time??

Trace the wire.. follow it to know where it goes. There are only so many options.

Does it connect to the reverse light ?

The previous owner may have added some things like extra lights or a cig lighter plug etc... and never removed the wires.. and over time they are just strays from days gone past.

Or they are part of the bike's wiring for something.. obviously not vital or the bike would not run.

If the reverse light stays on ..you know for sure there is either a short somewhere or another problem... does your reverse light work ?

Just follow the wire to it's destination and you will find your answer.

    Ok.

But is that ground wire there from the factory, or did someone add it?? Someone earlier mentioned that it is not supposed to be there and someone must have added it..
