wife trike

I got my wife a 250sx to learn to ride in the sand at the same time as my 2 boys learn on thier tri zingers. She is only 110 lbs and I think it is too heavy for her in the sand.
I was thinking on converting a 200x to autox while everyone is learning or would just a 110 or 185s be the ticket for her to get down the basics. I wish suspension kits were a little more reasonable
The boys are 4 and 6 and will need a stepping stone to the 200x as well. I am trying to head off a trx 90 revolt because of suspension issues. What trike do you guys have your wives/kids in the same class as the trx90.

Is this the first ATV she's ever been on ?

the SX is not hugely heavy.... but certainly bigger than the 200 cc models.

Has she tried it at all ? how did she do ?

Other than about 2 hours as teenager, yes. She had a geat time with no complaints at pismo last week, it just seems like something smaller would promote better skills and more fun.

My wife rides an 86 200x. She will go anywhere we go.
I taught her in the sand. She was always stalling it. But in the sand she was able to keep the revs up and spin the tires a little, till she got use to the clutch, and now its like second nature to her.
Taught my sister the same way, she also rides an 86 200x.

ive only riden my 86 250sx besides this huge suzuki 750cc quad i rode for like an hour. im only 100 lbs but ive never riden in sand.

like oddball said the 86 200x is great leaner bike...... taught my missis on that one and not too big for the kids as well....

the SX being auto-clutch... i think would be easier to learn on.

The 200x is a great bike and I'm sure whe will be able to master it in time, but right now the kids are just learning and there is alot of stopping and waiting involved. Learning a clutch and kickstart while riding with the boys could be a good thing or a bad thing and right now I don't want to chance a bad experience.

The first ride was at the beach, (not to hot or dusty).

Her first ride was on the 250sx, (cadillac comfort and easy operation)

I brought a spare 250sx in case the first were to have any problems

She loved it. How could you not like cruising down the sands of pismo on the waterfront, at sunset during the week, (not too crowded) on a electric start, autoclutch, smooth riding 4 stroke throne.

As you can see, nothing was left to chance. Mission Acomplished, she loved it!
Now she needs to learn to lean. Maybe a small hardtail while we are still camp riding, or an auto x, the 250sx seems to promote lazy riding habits.

I have a 200x project that could be done in a few days or a autox conversion in a few weeks and buy a 110 or 185s to use as a transition bike until then.

you got a " Spare " 250 sx ?????.... you made of money dude ???.. wow i envy your wife. .. !!! lol..

You still need to lean on an SX.. even more so than the hard tails.

my big red 200 ES was easier to ride than my SX... the SX is tippier with the suspension. But still a lexus of trikes. Keep her on the SX.

I had to get a spare, I was jealous of hers and I don't have to keep it forever. It was a good deal too. Who am I foolin? I still check the paper for more, I can't help it.

An auto X would be a great bike, great handling , not to much power, easy to handle for wife and kids.

Has anybody owned an autox and been dissatisfied after the conversion?

I think the sx you have is the perfect beginner bike, enough power to get out of trouble if needed, easy to ride, decent suspension for comfort, not too quick for a beginner. On a side note, how long did you have to place reservations to get into pismo, I went last weekend and couldn't even park there with a day pass, it was really really really crowded.

built an autox for my wife back when i had my first R....it was perfect for her needs.....ended up GIVING it away to a friend years later and am STILL kicking myself for it.....wasn`t dissatisfied at all with the conversion....worked great!....i`d build another in a heartbeat!

My wife does GREAT on the 200s. It is small enough for her to handle (she's 5-6, 125lbs). Got plenty of power and handles EXCELLENT, and even though it's a hard tail, the tires I have are pretty gentle with about 3 lbs of pressure in them. Pretty cushy ride. She likes it, and it looks like it was made for her.

I look like an Ape humping a football when I ride it (6-1 210lbs), but I LOVE IT!!!
