    200x clutch help

    I've read through all of the threads and wasn't able to find anything to help. My 200x has gone through 2 sets of clutch plates(friction and steel). I've checked everything over and over again and no luck. I've tried different baskets and springs and still no luck. The clutch will work great for about an hour but then start slipping. I've just about gone through all of my plates and have just one set left but don't want to kill them. Please help me.

    What year is it and are you using new plates and friction discs or used ones.

    Is there grooves in the clutch basket? Might be time for a new one.

    84 and the basket looked good. I'm totally f'n confused. New plates and discs but no luck. Works great for an hour then starts to slip. I did let friends ride it but they didn't ride the clutch as hard as I was. I did a few wheelies but thats about it.

    Do you have your cable adjusted properly. Its got to have a little free play.

    No I've gone from one extreme to the other and still the same bullsh@t. I'm taking tomorrow off to catch up on some trike restoring and will take pics of the complete assembly and put a new(clutch baket and all) one in and see if it works. Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep right on it until something goes right and let you know what is up.

    Are you soaking the new plates in oil for 24 hours before installing them? What grate/type of oil are you using?

    How do the plates and frictions look when you pull them out? Our 200x was slipping and the cable seemed adjusted ok. Then I found the other adjustment on the bottom side of the cable near the engine. Good luck.

    dont use any oil with any kind for friction reducing aditives. i almost always use a straight 10w30 pennsoil or the hoinda gn4 oils. somethign that i knwo wont make my clutch slip.
    another trick is to lightly scuff your steel plates on the cement or lightly blast them with some really fine walnut shell or somethign liekthat in a sandblaster.just make sure you get alltthe material off the plates or it WILL GET IN THE MOTOR AND CAUSE PROBLEMS.

    The only way I know of that you can be frying a clutch in an hour is if its constantly being slipped, either manually (too much slipping in riding style or geared way too high), or the cable is too tight ( should, have plenty of free slop in it) or something is not returning to home position when you let go after you pull it such as cable sticking or pivot arm sticking.

    Adjust

    I Agree With Tim. The Cable Is Probably Miss Adjusted. Some Cables Have Two Places To Adjust With. You Should Have About 1/8 To A 1/4 Inch Of Freeplay In The Lever Before It Starts To Get Hard To Pull In.

    Out Of Curiosity, What Kind Of Oil Are You Using?

    If You End Up Pulling It Back Apart, Smell The Oil For A Gasy Smell. Mybuddys 350x Did The Same Thing As You. Replaced The Clutch As Well As Everything Else A Couple Of Times. The Clutch Fried Out Within A Ride Or Two. Long Story Short Gas Was Getting In To The Bottom End Mixing With The Oil, Causing The Clutches To Slip And
    Burn Up. He Rebuilt The Carb And It Took Care Of It. Sucks He Had To Learn The Hard Way!!

    Also how should I adjust the the adjustment place on the bottom (by the motor) and how much on the lever after that?

    Well I feel stupid. It was the f'n cable. It got very hot from the motor and was sticking to the point where the clucth wouldn't catch. I've been hard at work on that trike and almost done. I sunk about 20 hours in the past 3 days and it's coming along. I took the best of all three of them and made one good looking trike. I left it all stock except the cobra pipe that came with them and the moose bars. Those little trikes move for just a 200cc motor. I'll post some pics when I get my fenders and tank. Does anyone know what is the best color match for the frame. I thought it was passion red but am not sure. There is a few nicks I want to touch up bad. Well thanks again guys.
