I restored my front fender and it came out like ****. But it had got all of the scratches out and made it smooth (there was white-ness to it though), so I just took a torch and took over it as bigredhead suggested, and now its very red, shiney, and pretty much like new. But that wouldn't be a very smart idea on a gas tank though.

I was also told to use a razor blade and just scrape the plastic. It looked like it turned out good doing it that way. Wait. I'll get you the thread with all of this stuff.

just dont want to part with the cash since the plastics on there are in great shape.
just do what i did, go get a few cans of krylon fusion gloss black, sand the fenders with 200, 600, then paint 3 or 4 coats of it on the fenders. it looks awesome!!!! heres some pics of mine,. the fenders are old, sun bleached, and crappy but the krylon made them look alot better. i love the black/red color scheme. it doesn't look cheap, and it made my 84 look good again.

There you go. Check out that thread. I'm sure there is something you will like in there. Just check with people on this site and make sure its ok to do with that kind of gas tank. Some kinds of plastic aren't too friendly to sanding.

thanks for the thread i will have to try and see what it turns out like . i just hate to sand the tank because it is in perfect condition not a scratch on it just faded. and the part just under the seat is still the original color and it matches the honda plastics nicely.

Well if its not scratched and only faded, flame kissing would be the way to go. The only thing is... the gas. Lol. I wouldn't recommend sanding. I'd try scraping and flame kissing first. If you can get ALL of the gas and gas vapors out of the tank.

Or if you decide to sand it.. start with 800 or 1000 grit 3M Imperial WetOrDry sandpaper and go at it. Starting with 400 grit sandpaper is for plastics that have roadrash and such. Search for a thread by Chainsaw about how renewing plastics and you'll get all the info you need.

well if all else fails then that may be my only option but id rather have this tank than the stocker cause its more than twice the size. and wont rust or dent up. by the way that is a very nice 250r monster im jealous lol

my 200x has a white plastic tank that is discolored and i took some steel wool to it and all it did is make the tank scratched up and i dont really wanna sit there for 2 hours sanding so im just gonna load the stickers on.. i take a hair dryer to my stickers and it helps them bind better, so far no peeled stickers and its been a month...

thanks will, i do all i can with my budget, but it looks better since that picture was taken. i stripped the gold adonazation from the back rims, stripped shifter and kickstarter, and soon to be, im going to weld up a 6 pack rack, and throw it on her.

i like metal tanks, just my .02 but i think there fine... only had one bike with a plastic tank, i hated it.

here are some better pics of my 250r.. it was on ebay like 3 weeks ago .....i dont mind metal tanks either my 200x has a metal tank that i used kreeme on and it works fine. i like the plastic tank on my 250r because it holds way more gas and i dont have to worry about breaking the tank shrouds.

How about using about 50 red Markers? a couple of coats, and I bet it would not look too bad. break the markers open use gloves (unless you want permanent red fingers) and "paint" the tank using the big swab? that's inside the marker. I have never done this, and I have never heard of this being done. I just thought about when I saw the picture of your bike. you could try doing this on the bottom, as a test. anyway, thats my 2-cents. good luck, and keep on triking.
