'84 Honda CR250- what year motors fit???

Hey peeps-

A buddy of mine has a 84 CR250 that's a nice base for a resto. He knows the motor has been hacked on already, so rather than try to get his re-sleeved/bored, he is lookin at just trying to get a newer powerplant if that is an option. Does anyone know exactly how new of motor will fit? If I recall correctly, didn't some of the radiator/water pump set-ups change? Please help! Thanx a lot all!

i'm not sure what the differences would be but why couldn't you get any year you wanted to fit? if your handy you should be able to get any engine to fit.

Well I realize that, and that's not the problem. The guy is redoing it and he wants it to appear as close to stock as possible. Ya know, with the minimum amount of hackin. LOL

any of the motors in that year range +/- a year or 2 should fit fairly easily if not without mods...check with a good dealer with friendly and knowledgable service guys...if thats possible...
