Has anybody done this before.I want to know, do i take out the allen head screw on the bottom of the shock to get the lower fork off.I read the book it's not to clear to me.I think you have to get the lower fork off to put new shock boots on.Does anyone know if this is the rite way to get it off,the allen head screw on the bottom and it slids off?Any help would be great,thanks......svo58

All you should have to do to put new shock boots on is to take the forks off of the tripple tree and just take the old shock boots off and put the new ones on. You're talking about the black rubber shock boots right?

I can't get the forks off at the top,i've tried everything.is there another way.How do you take the bottom part of the fork off?????

Oh ok I see. What you should do if the forks aren't coming out of the tripple tree is to make sure you take all the bolts out of where the forks are held in the tripple tree, then spray some wd40 all in that area and then use a shop rag to grip the fork shaft and turn it back and forth til it loosens up. You really don't wanna disasemble the forks if you don't have to....

Could i use a pipe wrench to brake it free.The darn thing won't move or twist,all the bolts are out and its been soaked for days.Any tips on getting it off

If it's similar to the 185 & 200s forks, sometimes I drive a chisel in between the fork clamps to spread them a bit. The fork will usually come out then. Just don't drive it in any further than necessary otherwise you risk breaking the clamping portion of the forks.

^listen to what freewheel says....it`s the way to do it....done it myself many times over the years.....you DO NOT want to take the bottom end of the fork off unless you are rebuilding them or replacing seals or something along those lines.....and DEFINITELY DO NOT use a pipe wrench on the fork tube...you will damage the tube and the burrs it causes will shred your fork seals!

OH yeah, I remember sticking a large flat head screwdriver in there to spread it apart a little and the forks came right out.

Yep,,, getting those fork legs to drop out is really hard since they probbly have not been out of there since put in from the factory. But that is the proper way to put the boots on.
Also ,,, it is the only way to change the fork oil too. So plan on a fork oil change when you get the fork legs dropped out.
