A couple golfcart questions (grizzly 600)

Ok, first. Why don't clymer have a repiar manual for the 99 yamaha grizzly? Where the heck am I supposed to get one?

Anyone use that heat tape? Ever wrap a header with it? This thing gets vapor locked (i think) I was gonna line the bottom of the gastank and wrap the header up. Will this work? How long will it hold?

hmmm i wouldnt try wrapping the header in it. but making an aluminium plate bloted to the frame around the header would transfer the heat away pretty good !! and keep the vapour locks away

Vapor lock on a Griz....I have heard something about a design problem with the 1st generation Grizzlies. When the quad hits water, it splashes up under the plastics where it hits something hot...engine, header or both. The water turns to steam and the intake system's fresh air inlet is located RIGHTTHERE! Instead of the air coming in fresh and cool, it is steam. I am not sure this is what is happening to yours, but it is something to check into. As for a Clymer Manual, odd they don't make one. Also a Yamaha Dealer should be able to locate you something....maybe a different brand.

Thanks SB..I called a yamaha dealer and they can get me one but I'd have to put a deposit down with a creditcard. Well I don't have one! And it's about 30 miles away but I didn't want to make two trips. One to put the deposit on it, then when it comes in I'd have to drive back down to pick it up! Why can't things be simplier.

I've noticed the air intake for the airbox is right under the back of the gastank? WTF? Anyway to remedy this?

    Check it out..

Can that rather large hole be blocked off? This has to be the dumbest design I've ever seen.

It runs for a little bit then dies. It won't restart til the motor cools.

The valves have to be readjusted. (new topend) a while back. And it's tickin a bit.

The guy I got it from says that's what he thinks it is so that's what I'm goin by!

how longs alittle bit? i had a 83 kdx that ran for a few minutes and then died. when it got hot it shorted the wires out on the stator so it wouldn't spark. got the stator rewound and it was fine.

    just a suggestion

no its just a pos. lol j/k but it always had a problem with vapor locking. get a piece of pvc pipe and snorkel it. and it will help but another thing is when you run it hard it runs better. dunno whyt justy does.

Friend of mine put a aftermarket CDI on his predator not long ago. It got to where it was dieing after a few minutes of hard run time. It would start and run perfect for about 5-10 minutes then die and not restart for a bit. Vaporlocking was my first guess. Turns out the cdi had problems causing hard starting when it got hot.

There was a new cdi put on this thing. According to the reciepts I got. Also the motor had no compression so a piston kit was put on. I think he said that after he got all this work done by a shop he still had the same problem as before. With it dying after running a bit. I'm leaning towards the vapor lock problem. Any suggestions.

yeh seriously chris just surround everything fuel related in aluminium foil and if it still has that problem you can rule it out but also when it stalls have you tried taking the plug out putting a couple of drops of fuel in there and seeing if she runs. if it doesnt you got yourself some other problem.
