now that everyone is saying check the gas cap i remember it happening to me. the 200sx i had, had this on off switch on the cap. why i don't know, stupid if you ask me. was riding it one day and then blah it just died. turned the knob and it was fine. started right up.
why in the first place did it need a top end?

It had only 90 psi or lbs (not sure how it's measured) of compression.

I just went out and looked at the cap. No switch on there. The gas gauge (I think) was been jb welded. But I don't think that has anything to do with it.

can you blow through the vent hose?
do you know what was the cause of the 90 lbs of compression? i ask because that could be the problem with it now, and was never fixed and could happen again.

HOLEY SMOKES!!! I just got off the phone with the guy from the shop. There's no aftermarket manual available for this model... He could get me one directly from yamaha.... are you sitting down? $80!!!!!Hotroddal... I take back my comments I made earlier.

Shawn. I can blow through the air hose just fine. Also it seems to have plenty of compression now. The guy told me the numder it was running but I forgot. It was alot higher than 90 though. If it ever stops raining I'm going to start taking it apart. You have to first take the front rack off then the front fender then the gastank cover to get to the tank. Then the carb is under that! Life was soooooooooo much eaisier when I was working on that 200x. I could pull the motor on that in less than 30 minutes! Gonna take me all day just to pull the carb on this.

I just have a hard time believing it's vapor locking.
Vapor locking is the result of the gas in the fuel line vaporizing before it gets to the carb, because everythign is so hot.
How about putting a clear peice of gas line on the carb bowl drain fitting. Leave the fitting open this will let the gas go up the tube to the exact hiegth (sp) of the float setting. THis way when it dies and you will be able to see if the carb has fuel in the bowl. I think if the carb has gas in it the problem would be electrical.
One good thing to do is to pull off all the plastic and check out every bit of the wiring. Also loosen all grounds and retighten them.
I had the RIGHT to remain silent, I didn't have the ability!
chris before you go spend that $80, rocky mountain atv has a oem griz manual for $60.![]()
i'm sure it has way more than 90 lbs now because of the new top end. was just curious what cause it to loose compresion. allmost all 4 stroke top ends will last more than 6 years! unless it sucks in water or dirt.![]()

maybe this is the culprit. It's the first bike I;ve owned that has an opening in the airbox like this. I' sure it would let dirt and water in quite easiliy.let alone the steam off the header. WTF?

This is probably the dumbest idea wou''l hear from me but how about if I block that tube off and add 1 or 2 of those uni filtered air vents on the lid back from the front where that tube is. At this point I'm just guessing.
Is threre anything I can wrap the header up with like headetape or something similier? Suggestion?
thats just a deep water snorkel intake. thats for when you go riding in water up to and over the airbox. if you can, take it off. i wouldn't block it, it will be sucking even less air. if its posibile also remove the airbox lid, but i know you can't on some yamaha's. the lid holds the airfilter in place on some.
so try removing the snorkel, and the lid or put some holes in the lid, so its sucking some cooler air away from the header.
