350X with 300EX engine... Ultimate trail bike??

3Leggeddog and I were into one of our conversations the other day. We saw one of these at Wellsville a couple weeks ago, and I was thinking "What a perfect trail bike".

I mean this trike has the agility and plush suspension of the 350X. Still capable of aggressive sport riding, AND reverse and electric start!!

I don't think it could get any better than that could it?

Who else has built or thought of building one of these?

My project started out with using that engine then I just decieded to use what I had. It's a great idea if you're willing to do a little engine work. In stock form the 300ex motor is a bit doggy but a proper 330 kit would easily keep up with your average 350x's. You'd have the power, electric start and reverse, sounds good to me.

Speedbump pulled an engine from his 350X and put it in the 300EX chassis, he went as far as dropping the EX engine in the frame of the X, but that was as far as it got. We thought the same thing 3 years ago. Since he took the engine out of the X, at least he could make it ridable. Needless to say, he parted the trike or sold it as a roller to a buddy, I can't remember.

    Make it happen Derrick.

I have been looking for a cheaper 300ex motor for just this kind of swap. I had never thought about it until TimSr mentioned it ( probably over 4 years ago ). Some day I will have me a cool 300x in the stable. I already have a chassis waiting.

The engine was sold with the quad. the roller X went down the road too.

Speedbump doesnt keep many things very long. (although the 350EX was one of the longest keepers beside the wife and kids)

Or how about using a 05-06 400EX motor. They have reverse now.

Am I the only one that thinks this is kinda stupid? Why would you take a perfect trike and put a smaller engine in it? Seems bass akwards to me. I like the idea of the 350 in an EX, but then its not a 3 wheeler. So you might as well just go buy a new quad? Maybe it's just me.

I understand the part about a smaller motor. But with a few performance mod's you can get the power back. The main reason I want to do this is because of having reverse and electric start. I like the ride of a 350x but having to kick start it every time I ride hurts my legs. This is why I ride the Polaris scrambler more than my 350x these days. I'm not lazy, I'm getting older. The older I get the harder it is on this body to start a 350x.

FYI, don't worry, I have a few 350x's, and I will always have a couple with stock motors in them.

This is the same trike I had mentioned ages ago.

I cant see replacing the motor on a good running 350X, but if the motor is toast, 300EX motors are a lot easier to find.

Its surprising more of these havn't showed up for sale in the last 5-10 years considering how many 350x's were probably bought cheap for their motor and put into a 250x or 300ex to race. You'd have thought the racers would have put the 300ex motor back into the 350x and sold it and got their money back plus some.

The problem is you can find 350x motors cheaper then 300ex motors or you probably would see this more.

The 250X and 300EX were poor chassis/suspension designs to race with, and teh 350X motor put them into classes where they could not be competitive which is why this was never popular. A number of 350X motors were fitted into TRX250R frames for this purpose, but once the 400EX was born, this setup was instantly obsolete. 400EX idea was based on the "TRX350X".
