i built that motor that derrick saw at wellsville. it is 60 over with a cam and springs and a port and polish job. i did the port work. we put a stock 350x sprocket on the front and he had a plus 6 swinger done. it runs a cobra 250x pipe on it,350x carb and a reverse lever mod to make it easier to get reverse. oh it also has new timing chain 12:1 piston and dirt digger clucth. he likes it better than his 85 atc 250r. says it pulls hills awesome. the only downfall, with that piston in it he has already burnt a starter. but any way just thought you might like to know the history behind that trike. also it was stolen from his garage 3 years ago and the lucky sob found it and got it back. cool

yeah doug shepard did that aorund here, called it a trx350xr.mean bike, built them up with the 452 kit,and raced them in the 2 stroke class.who knew that years down the line 4 strokes would take over.

I just don't see the point in giving up 11 Hp. - reverse and electric start be damned!. However - I see the practicality in Tim's "easier to find" statement.

a friend of mine put a 1991 250x engine in a 350x frame, it bolted right in, the only thing he had to do is just cut and re-weld the exhaust pipe to clear the frame, he put the 350x engine into the 250x quad, he did this conversion becuase he had hurt himself prity bad on the original 350x and the wife said it has to go or you do sumthing to de-tune it so he swapped engines.

Actually it's about 4-5hp differnce and with some proper work 300ex motors can pull more hp then a stock 350x. A well built 330ex motor will pull a lot more then that too.

he had the 350x carb on it when he bought it. he got the thing for like 800 bucks.it ran good stock for about 4 years.then she went south, and that is what we did to it. i will tell you though, i will line that up with a piped 400ex any day, it feels real crisp.hits kinda like a 2stroke with the port work. he had a 350 x and he likes it just as much, if not more.you will no him if ya see him (3hweelins a good feelin) a.k.a tripod troy.later guys

    I don't know about that - From the respective manuals, Hondas stated Hp of a 300EX is 17 - 350X is 28.

I agree. The 350 is an extremely robust motor. You dont see people taken the 300s and putin them in a 250x fourwheeler. Hell most of the people who buy trashered 350xs just want the motor cuase you can bore the hell out of it and it stays relatively reliable. Far for reliable than the 300. But thats my opinion.

Sorry but I have zero faith in manuals. The 17hp for the 300ex sounds right for at the rear but the 28hp on the 350x is defo from the crank. Apples and oranges IMO.

Seeing as most of the 350x engine out there have 20 years of use on them maybe we should use the results FYI got instead of the manual, 21ish HP for the 350x?
