Open flame on a gas tank

Anyone think it's safe to braze a gas tank? I've got 2 ATC200 tanks that leak. One has a 1/8 inch hole in the lower rear corner, it's kinda weird. It's rusted through but all the metal around the hole is solid and if you look inside there is absolutely no rust at all.
The second one was forced over the rubber grommets and bent one of the lips that they fit into and caused a leak. I was thinking I would braze them, not sure if I should flush them with water or what, I've seen that done.
Any ideas or a better idea for a repair, I really don't want to coat them, they are in nice shape other than that. Or does anyone have any useable ATC200 tanks? I dont care about dents or paint or what model.

How long a torch do you have? I always flush mine real good with water before the flame gets anywhere near it.

Yep you will be fine to braze the tank, but first get some water and wash around in the tank, then empty it out do it again and then empty it out, Have a sniff in the tank now, if you can still smeel petrol wash it around again until you cant. After you cant smell petrol in the tank anymore it would be wise to wash it around on more time. Then your good to go!!!

and make sure you leave the cap off when you braze a quick flash is preferable to a detonation, the results of someone mig welding ona tank closed with the cap on is visible in the ceiling (16 ft) [7/16 OSB ] of my shop and probably still visible in his pants.

    Why ???

Why in the world would you not want to coat the inside of the tank ?
Any of the high dollar paint jobs going on bike tanks it's a norm (from what I hear-makes sense too) to coat the tank. Putting a bunch of money into a paint job on a tank - protect it from the inside out ,,,, even if it is a new tank.
But anyways ,,, I have done my fare shair of brazing on gas tanks and too me ,,, it is a waste of time for me anyway. I just seem to open up more un-exsposed rust holes till I have a whole brazing rod in the tank and I need to reach for another and another rod.
Since I found a decent tank lining manufacture that is.
Redcoat the product is called and I have mailed it all over the country for board members since nobody can find it in their locale auto parts stores.
this stuff will drain out a hole the size of a pencil eraser and coagulate into a long blood looking drip and harden. trim up the excess and you will be good to go.
The product "kream" is worthless compared to redcoat. I recently read other folks on here have with great success with another product - can't remember the name of it though ,,,,

Well I have both tanks at my dads house and it would be easier and cheaper for me to just go over there and braze them shut instead of ordering some type of gas tank coating then going through all the trouble to coat it. The one tank doens't leak from runs, it basically leaks from a seam. And if you look in either one you can't see any rust at all, they are pretty decent shape. And these aren't a restore project these are going on riders. They have factory paint and decals and they are staying that way.

I am sure you can braze them, but when you do you will distort the metal and cause it to rust on the inside. So you will need to coat the inside tank anyway. So at this point your ending up doing both brazing and coating.

IMO, it would just be easier to do like John's said and coat it once and be done with it. While you might have to spend a little more money you only have to do it once and your done.
