How to know the engine speed without a RPM gauge?

    Hi

How can I know the speed of my engine without an RPM gauge? Is it possible with a voltmeter or something like that?

I'm trying to set idle speed. Any tools is better than my ears!

    Hey

im guessing your doing this on an autoclutch trike?. Start the trike and ride it around for about 5-10 minutes. Now take it out of gear and turn the idle screw anticlockwise slowly until the engine is stalling. Now turn the screw clockwise in about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and you should be about right. leave the engine idling for 2-3 minutes at this setting to check its not going to stall and then without touching the brakes, put it in first gear, it will jump a little when you put it in gear but it shouldnt ride off on its own, if it doesnt your idle is spot on, if it does turn the screw anticlockwise until it doesnt move forward.
hope this helps you out a bit
