yeah this is a serious bike. dry weight in the neighborhood of 600 lbs. damn fast to for being 25 years old. with the unifilters and the mac exhaust it has right at 100hp. about 65 lb/ft.

once it sweeps past 4500 rpm it really gets out of it's own way.

and it's a 4cyl. with the 4 into 2 exhaust it sounds like a big sportbike but with a much deeper tone. there's something awesome about the sound of a big 4cyl through nice pipes.

I am in the same boat, I've had my 81 for a long time, only two problems have ever occured, 2nd gear went, (factory screw up on Yamaha's part, they put a washer on the wrong side of the gear, so it didn't fully engage and the cogs jumped out of the inside of the other gear, not to hard of a fix, just had to drop the tranni through the oil pan) and I have had a hell of a time with my carbs, but I do agree these are all around great bikes. Not to mention, they were the first out of the box bike to do the 1/4 in less than 13 sec.

Here is an AWESOME site just for our bikes, very knowledgeable people.....
