I am replacing my seat on the 250sx (1985) and I am lost to where the spring goes that latches the rear fenders to the frame. I attached a picture for reference. Its on the top bracket.

Ok, You have the bracket on the right installed wrong. Remove the bracket and spin it 180 degrees. The spring fits onto the rod and the other end hooks to the bracket and the other hooks to the bracket on the rod.
